Hi all,
I am looking at a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The dealer can't tell me if it has Quadra-Trac II transfer case. This is the vin 1C4RJFAG2EC314936. Is there any way to find out?
Thank you
Bill

I would strongly advise you not to tow a 2014 to 2016 Jeep Cherokee. There have been significant safety issues. There are over 50 folks who are on our list that have had the problem of these vehicles swaying violently when you happen to hit the right spot on the road. Your motor home will feel like it is coming apart and it maybe. Several of us have had damage to ours from these events.

Fait Chrysler has now acknowledged the problem and are supposedly working on a solution by adding a wiring harness to provide power to the electronic steering when towing. For those who have not traded theirs (because of this and other problems), may now have hope that they can tow these vehicles without this awful problem.

Please be very careful and make sure you talk to your dealer about getting the information on the harness. if anyone else is towing these Cherokees, please do ask for this wiring harness so MAYBE you will not have to go through all the problems some of us have had. You can read the article in the Family Motor Coach Magazine in February that details these problems. For those that have not had the problem or believe that there is not a problem, this is proof there is one!

Take care.

Understanding what you're reading in the post helps. Unless of course you take every chance you can get to complain.

When we had our Jeep "Cherokee" we never had one issue. :R

It is not a used car on a Jeep dealer lot. The lot is called Offleaseonly.com. The picture of the shiftier lever does not have the same selector shown by Brian and Margie. So I guess it is not QT II.
Thank you all

No such sway problems with the Grand Cherokee, as Romer1 pointed out. And since it's a 2014, I suspect the OP is looking at a used GC, probably on the used car lot at a non-Jeep dealership.

Take your vin number to a Jeep dealer and ask the service department to pull up the data. I doubt there would be any charge for this. They can tell you how it was equipped from the factory.

Also, if it has no shifter for low and high range, it's Quadra Trac I. If it has the shifter, it's either QT II or Quadra Drive. Trying to recall... I think the difference between the latter two is that the QD has a limited slip rear differential and the QT II does not... but I could be mistaken.

Find a new dealer and then read the owners manual. Read the manual, it will tell you how to set it up for towing.

Most importantly, do not take a salesman's word that it can be towed.

Find a new dealer is a good suggestion!

You can find out from the VIN or just look at the interior. You must have a knob similar to this to tow a '14 GC...
