Can a 2017 VW Jetta manual transmission be towed?

The MotorHome magazine tow guides don't list it, the owners manual is vague about towing over 30 miles but eTrailer has a Blue OX base plate installation guide & base plate for it.

So, is anyone towing a 2017 Jetta with 1.4 engine and manual transmission? Does it work?

My gut feeling is why not. Being a manual, no fluid issues to worry about. In neutral the only thing rotating are the half shafts and inside the transmission the main shaft is turning and distributing gear lube so like I said, why not?

I had a 2012 Jetta 5 speed and the manual listed no restrictions on flat towing. After that I had a 2014 Passat, also a 5 speed and like yours, the manual was essentially silent on recreational towing. What is not known is whether there was a transmission design change from '12 to '17 or VW has decided to no longer mention RV towing in their manual. Wish I had a real answer. Some research on VW forums might be helpful.

Yes, there seems to be more reports against towing it versus towing it. I guess a Jeep might be in our future.
