Very common in the northeast area, too--firewood must be local (with varying definitions of local) or heat treated per USDA specifications. Typically the heat treated wood is sold in little shrink-wrapped bundles and has a USDA seal or similar identification on the packaging to show it's properly heat treated.

If it's like here, treated campfire wood is readily available at gas stations, grocery stores, etc.
