OK I finally got around to making a tongue scale with a pair of 2x4's, couple pipes, a stepping stone, and a bathroom scale. Got my 4:1 reading which works out to around 700# with my 220# standing on top of the fresh water tank, and about 5 gallons in the black tank, grey tank is empty.
This approximates the loadout when I went to the CAT scales last weekend. With my WDH I moved 180# to the front axle, and 80# to the trailer. I had about 100# of generator and 5 gallons of fuel in the bed against the cab end, so it isnt behind the axle. This works out to about 680# of flesh and blood of 5 people in the cab. YIKES!
So my question, is 180# forward and 80# back about right, or should I readjust the head with a little more rear tilt to get a bit more tension on the bars? My Empty with me and loaded with trailer front axle weight is the same if that matters.
At least now I know I don't need 801-1200# bars. We also solved the over payload and GAWR problem, wife and mom will take a separate car. ๐ Kids can either ride with them or me in the truck. It also provides us with optional transportation once we get where we are going and not have to worry about getting around in the truck at some of the lots. The Focus takes up little room.
