In 1984 my dad, mom, brother, sister(not often) and myself bought some land and built a 3 season home next to family and friends. Fast forward 25yrs. Dad and mom had strokes, brother just retired from the army and live in NC, and sister needs cash for kids going to college. My wife and I are maintaining the place. Under pressure from my sister, especially, my parent put it up for sale and I offer to buy it for $60k straight cash to them. Mom says no I've been arguing with the neighbors, lie my sister told to get mom to sell. Guy buys it 4yrs later puts it up for sale long story short on August 7th I close on it. Family and friends excited as the guy who bought it was not nice. So It's cheaper than camper and a truck and only have to load it up once in the spring and close once in the fall. Have lake access and a nice boat. Owning the cabin is waaaayyy cheaper for all your information but it has to be the right fit, camping does not fit me well. Hi hooo to Maine I go again. Will buy a pop up for short trips in a yr or 2. later. Thanks for all the help rv.net.

Congratulations. Glad that's something you enjoy. I wish you the best!

You bought the one thing I would never consider. It's another house. I have plenty to do on the one I live in day to day. My wife's grandparents had a beautiful cottage on a lake.
Work all day when there, relax a little bit at night. Go home on Sunday.

Same with camping for me anyway. two days loading camper leave early am get to camp site around 2 or 3(check in time, don't worry about that anymore) set all the stuff up tables grill, screen tent over picnic table, clean camper from what ever got tossed around. now it's 6pm I'm sweating and tired. My experience with cottage leave in am get there about noon. Go in get lunch or stopped on the way. Crack beer get bathing suite walk 120 feet to dock swim crack beer slide motor boat in from ramp next to dock for late pm or am fishing ( no motor boat if I've been drinking, can get a oui or dead ). Camp fire by the lake with a radio turned up so I can actually hear it and we might stay up laughing loudly until midnight. Next morning sit on deck in underwear if desired. Closest neighbor is 100feet on left and right and I know when they will be up. while sipping coffee on deck over looking lake with loons doing what loons do, then mow lawn in late am back to lake or maybe a day trip to Augusta, Bath, Freeport, Portland, maybe Acadia (3hrs north)or even Canada 3hrs NW. leave at 5pm and get home at 8pm enjoying all day Sunday (no late fee)and no laundry as we have a washer dryer and a dishwasher.
Now there is work to be done but we usually would schedule a work weekend just take out fishing and swimming well maybe not swimming if it's hot. This first year and a half will be a lot of work to get everything the way we like.

Wow...funny how life takes twisty turns and works out like that, eh?

Let us know when you're back with the PUP.

Congrats on getting your family's home back. I hope you enjoy your time there.

(Are you going to invite your sister to visit? Wouldn't blame you at all if you didn't. 😉 ).
