Your dogs minstrel cycle (menstrual) effects of traveling

My dog is fairly regular and I keep track of when she is due to come into heat, HoweverI have noticed that last year and it appears that this year traveling has thrown off her cycle. Maybe it has something to do with instinct and a dog not wanting to give birth away from home in unfamiliar surroundings.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior with their dogs?

Dogs don't usually change cycles with age, only with physical/medical issues.

I have wanted to have a litter of pups but have been putting it off for various reasons. I am stuck in NY selling a house and I have a trip to Tucson AZ planned in the fall, it she isn't pregnant this next time she comes into heat I probably will take your advice. I pay for a health insurance plan for both dogs that includes regular check ups and they always come back with a clean bill of health.

PS judging from the responses it looks as if the change in my dogs cycle isn't due to the change in her surroundings.

She is 5, she missed her cycle last summer (just some light spotting). But had her normal cycle in the fall. It looks like she may miss her cycle again

Could it be that it changes with age?

How old is your dog? I was always told that if you don't spay a female, they will eventually get pyometra. Don't know if that's true or not, but I have had several females through rescue who were older and were full of pyometra when they were spayed.
