CCI 7719 to Safe T Alert Conversion wiring

My CCI 7719 Alarm was malfunctioning so I got the Safe T Alert 70-742 kit, with solenoid.

Replaced the solenoid, enlarged the hole for the alarm and wired up the unit.

(1999 Southwind)

Here's the issue:

The CCI had 3 wires: yellow and 2 reds.

MH wiring had 3 wires: yellow and 2 reds.

Yellow goes to solenoid.

The Safe T Alert has 4 wires: 2 white, 1 red, 1 black.

Following the instructions, I mated 1 white and 1 red to a red from the MH. 1 black to the other red from MH. Remaining white to yellow/solenoid.

There is no black wire (ground) from the MH, so I presumed that the 2 red wires complete the circuit.

Do I have to retrofit a ground wire (black) to the alarm and cap off the extra red wire?

A schematic of the way I wired it is below.

I have no power to the alarm or solenoid.

Has anyone done this conversion? And if so, what is the proper wiring to make this work.

OK. I've answered my own question. Rather than delete this thread, I'll post my solution in case anyone else has the same issue.

I disconnected the black wire from the MH red wire and ran a jumper from the black wire on the alarm to a known ground. The alarm now works and opens the solenoid as designed.

Apparently the CCI unit worked without a dedicated ground.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to run a ground wire into the space behind the alarm.

Edit: In my Southwind, the gas alarm is directly across from the main power panel just above floor level. Rather than trying to find a run for the ground underneath the coach, I pulled up the carpet, drilled a hole at floor level into the compartment where the alarm is mounted into and also into the power compartment. Ran the ground wire through the holes, under the carpet from the alarm to a ground on the power panel.

Re-tacked the carpet and tested everything.

Works as designed and all is good. Just had to think it through.

I have power at alarm as follows:

white/red-yellow - 12v

black/red-yellow- 12v

white/red-black/red 0v

No power at solenoid.
