The DW and myself only use flip phones ... but a little ole' cable and/or a cable/brick combination is required to charge them ... one configuration for charging them from the RV's 12V receptacles and another configuration for charging them from home's 120V wall receptacles. I sure would like to merely place them in a charging cradle like I do with my simple induction-principle-charging toothbrush!

Smartphone screens and buttons are too small. The only "iGadget" we have is the DW's mini-iPad with it's actually useable size screen.

BTW, our little tiny and easily non-bulge pocketable flip phones can indeed be used to browse the Internet if we wanted to in emergencies - no Smartwhatever required.

Why does charging need (any kind of) a cable ... anyway????

My toothbrush has been kept charged for years with no wires going to it.

I guess, USB ports are not meant for crude task of physical fastening of the brick of the phone to the charger. Cable is a minor nuisance.

Why wouldn't you ask instead - why does one even need smartphones and their touchscreens :)... A flip-phone with physical buttons is more ergonomic, more convenient to dial than touch-screen. This has been established years ago. Controls with mechanical response are generally more convenient. Old flip phone won't have all the features of a smartphone, but you'll be surprised how many people chose to "dumb down" their smartphone, disabling a lot of features and apps that it came with. Saves battery life, btw.

My toothbrush has been kept charged for years with no wires going to it. Works like a champ.

I wish all my little electronic gizmos didn't need cords running to them for charging. :h and ๐Ÿ˜ž

I'm happy with my 2 port 4.8 amp charger I got at Wally World a while back. Two ports is all I need.

Do something useful ๐Ÿ™‚

LIST the cigarette lighter chargers YOU know of that have 2 charger ports, 5-amperes charging potential. Forget about the meter, that's icing on the cake.

I have a S4, it does charge up fast. Much faster than on the car plug. I'll have to see if the charger would make a difference on my one touch.
