For Folks With MeanMega Well Power Supplies

The link below will take you to a store that sells CLAROSTAT 10-turn pots that would seem to be ideal for the power supplies. The item is halfway down the page. This would make resolving voltage settings a lot easier.

I'd not recommend an automatic schumacher. They tend to believe occasionally that 16.4 volts is to be reached as soon as possible.

And other times follow the standard automatic undercharger algorithm of all the other automatic sources

Mex,

I don't blame you for not looking ... since it's description includes a word you hate in the world of battery charging ... "automatic".

Mena ... you're right ... finding a good old Vector 40 amp charger to buy any more appears to be difficult.

Here's about the closest I've been able to come - just a bit beyond MeanMega/MeanWell pricing, though (I wonder why it's not available in CA or OR? :M ๐Ÿ˜ž

Just as a reminder, those non-smart but state of the art phones that showed up just before smart phones arrived on the scene - like Mr Wizard shows in his photos above - still do a whole bunch of stuff but don't carry the big monthly charges like genuine so-called smart phones do.

You can surf the WEB, text, take/store/trasmit/look at photos, etc.. with them just for the lower priced plans of old fashioned cell phones (i.e. $10/month in my DW's situation). :C

MEX, you can get pay as you go plans from any of the big carriers. Just go into an AT&T store and ask for pay as you go.

Straight Talk is cheaper and uses AT&T's network. If you find their store, you can do the same there.

Mex, they have plans where you can use the phone on AT&T for $2 a day, only the days you want to use it. Unlimited, good in Mexico too. You find a AT&T store and be there at 9 am in the morning, M-Sat, pay up, or pay online from a laptop, and there you go.

That would be a plan for basic and messaging phones. Check the AT&T link above.

Love it. Problem with pay plans is I use the phone heavily for 2 days then go hide in Mexico for years. Minutes expire, monthly payments sorta dumb.
That's the beauty of pay as you go, there is no monthly payment. I think AT&T calls it prepaid. You only pay when you need it.

BTW, with that S2 you don't per say NEED to use the keyboard. ONe of the keys on the lower left hand side has an icon of a microphone. Press it and dictate. The message will be close enough 99.9% of the time.

Warning... a smart phone with a dumb owner is a dangerous idea. Be careful. Don't know what they'd think of a Gringo with an expensive phone down there... being discrete might be a good idea to prevent sticky fingers.

Another caveat.... Do not EVER place this device somewhere where it can get knocked off, or fall onto the ground, or floor. They do not tolerate dropping at all, even Gorilla Glass screens. Treat it like an instrument, not a tool. Also, no use while driving... for text or phone calls, unless you supplement with a hands free device.

A cell phone in the hands of an irresponsible driver is a lot like a gun... innocent people can get killed or run over with misuse. Operating a car should take 100% of your attention span, and a smart phone darn near 0%. I say this because I lost a friend to a dumb teenage girl that felt texting was more important than paying attention to driving. Not that you're a teenage girl, some folks have their priorities messed up, being young and all.

Love it. Problem with pay plans is I use the phone heavily for 2 days then go hide in Mexico for years. Minutes expire, monthly payments sorta dumb. 99.99% USA calls are to doctor and pharmacy despite my smartass comments to the contrary. Niner sending a message to you.

Mex, I have a Galaxy S2 AT&T. You want it, free? Get a pay as you go plan in San Diego at an AT&T store. I may have left it rooted with Ice Cream Sandwich operating system... 4.2.2 version, if I remember correctly.

It will get you at least in the ball park with some phone service.

Or if you feel guilty accepting gifts, a good mex wanderer powerpack timer charger for a T-1275 in trade? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Don't they still have pay phones in MeHeeCo?

I think I saw a lonely one recently here in Silicon Valley ... not in a museum either.

Can I make an absurd plea?

If I cannot call I cannot get power supply parts. This is pretty weak thread to sew things back together but it is fact. Going to hit the border with no cellular. I don't even know where to buy a SIMS chip for the AT&T so I can call get another phone, then do what I want to do - load up on semiconductors. Why is life so complicated now? Before, take a nickel, drop it into a pay phone slot, hammer the coin return with the palm of the hand as the nickel drops, hear the chime and dial. North of the border is strange and scary.

George,

That upper photo of a "phone" you show is almost exactly what my DW has. I bought it for her last year at a garage sale in WA for $1, including the charger. Verizon loaded all her data in it from her old phone and it has worked great so far. It almost does what an iPhone does ... including ( ๐Ÿ˜ž ) real easy texting with it's full keyboard!
