Aims 1200/2400 PSW with 10amp transfer switch (10*120=1200)
i'm not using the TS/pass thru function

Amazon $169 Aims 1200w PSW

1200w continuous 2400w surge, MW is 750 cooking watts, 1100 input watts

this should power anything i want to power, maybe not my circular saw or welder, but everything else

primary use TV, laptop, fans, device charging
secondary MW late at night (other wise i would have got something with less power)
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Go with at least a 2000 watt with a 30 amp tranfer if you want to replace your existing inverter.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.
2005 Damon Intruder 377 Alas declared a total loss
after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios
Kenwood TS-2000, ICOM ID-5100, ID-51A+2, ID-880 REF030C most times

Has there been an objective ratings performed like Consumer Reports on inverters?

I used the good-old dart board and tea leaves method when buying my Samlex. But they aren't the lowest price per watt.

the old one, is my New Old Stock 7yr old HF 1200w/3000w MSW
it was my backup for the safari, sat unused in the closet NIB for 7yrs
i installed it,in the bounder, several months ago, instead of buying another one then, the bounder did NOT have an inverter when i bought it,
when the Heart interface inverter combo died in the safari Oct 2010, the the HF was an emergency acquisition to keep the residential fridge going,
i then ordered and installed a tripplite 1250 powerverter, which is still working
the HF was relegated to 'backup parts status', being only a few weeks old at that time

the MW doesn't like it, everything else works good

i like Go power, finances don't justify a $600 inverter right now

i wanted something 'size wise' that i could mount on its side in the bay.
so i did not have to rearrange the bay storage

but maybe i will have to re-think that, and go with another nice big heavy Tripplite inverter, i know how well they hold up
I can explain it to you.

What was wrong with the old one?

Otherwise I recommend the GoPower 1500 watt SW

Better now than 100 miles away from the nearest shipping services?

'Fans very quiet'

it malfunctioned
it refused to stay in 'inverter mode'
would go to line input mode (according to the yellow LED)
could hear the TS click

turn it off. turn back on, green LED for a few seconds, then switch to yellow

i removed it and i'm sending it back
very disappointing, less than 48hrs, Tues afternoon - thurs morning
it worked last night, it worked this morning
quit about noon, no loads, it was at idle

just finished reinstalling the my old one

Mr. Wizard, is that invertor's fan thermo controlled and fairly quiet? Or does the fan run all the time?

Another reason to have separate components. I would not connect a 10 amp transfer switch and limit the circuit in an RV. I realize the OP is not using the TS.

exactly

nothing is running thru the inverter or the output wiring when the genny is running

i an NOT on shore power, and NOT using the Pass thru
it is being used as a stand alone inverter

and the inverter has NO problems with my TV PC cooling FANS, etc..

and handles the 750 cooking watts no problem
it is a 2400w surge, 1200w continuous

the discussion was not meant to be defined by the internal TS/pass thru

the posting was to keep people abreast of whats available
a 1200w TSW know brand for $169

i did thorough searching before purchasing,

at 11.5# its not a tiny light weight, although not as heavy as the best built more expensive models, many brands offer similar power
1000/2000w models that weigh considerably less, only 7# or so
I can explain it to you.

Only a 10a transfer switch?
Very typical and sad for the RV world. Pass through power is generally 15 amps minimum and IMO all these small inverters should have 15 amp minimum rated transfer switch.

1200w is not enough to safely run a MW. Most draw more than 10 amps. If your inverter has a transfer switch then all the circuits you mentioned will be running through the inverter even when hooked up to power. You wont be inverting but the current will go through the transfer switch . It wont handle lots of power draw. If you are not running any outputs to the transfer switch how will you get power to those items you mentioned?

PowerMax has just added a PSW line of inverters to their product line. I will try to get more info. (They are also bringing in the LK type converter as their main line of those. It is all in motion so have to wait for dealer info and pricing etc)

The inverter spec sheets are here but no manual (yet?)

Sounds like An invertercharger designed for the RV market, for the whole RV, or most of it

The one I bought is not !

I wasn't looking for pass thru, it just happen to have that feature

Maybe the Mfg agrees with you,
I expect these to sell out
Idle load is hard to measure , less than one amp
I can explain it to you.
