Onan Marquis 7000 generator

My 18 year old generator starts, but won't run. If I manually play with the throttle linkage I can get it to run for a few seconds after starting, but that's it. If I do nothing, as soon as the engine fires the starter kicks out (correctly) and the engine dies. Air and fuel filters are clean and it's getting both. It used to start and run fine, then one day suddenly decided IT was going on vacation. Any suggestions?

Is this a gas genny or a diesel? If gas, has it been sitting a long time? If so, you may have a gummed up carb.

Suggest you post the complete model/serial/spec numbers so we'll know what you have.

Short the terminals on the oil level switch to test.
