Rooftop A/C Cleaning/Tune-Up

I followed Chris Bryant's Blog Thread to clean our Rooftop A/C, a Coleman Mach Plus 15000 non-ducted unit.
Since I did this in connection with This Fan Motor Project, I can't say how long it took me. The motor removal allowed me to see how fouled the indoor blower wheel (squirrel cage) was, and clean it also. I'm glad I did since it was far dirtier than I could see from inside the coach.
The picture Chris shows that includes Drain Pan and Freeze Control appears to be a Duo-Therm, but the drain pan and opening down into the coach roof look like my Coleman setup. Among her Cookie Sheets, DW had one with no side edges. I found this was wide enough to slip a plain edge of the cookie sheet next to the Drain Pan and be able to deflect rinse water away from the opening to the inside. I also had a beach towel in it.
The only tools I needed for all the cleaning I did were a Phillips #2 Screwdriver and 5/32" Long Allen Wrench. The squirrel cage in our Coleman Mach has what looks like half a blade missing. It's actually access to the head of the clamp that retains the cage. The clamp actually goes on only one way and that way lines the screw head up with that half-missing-blade.
At least with the Coleman, the outdoor fan blade had to come off the motor shaft before I could take the motor out, squirrel cage still attached. I took the cage off the motor and cleaned it on the ground. I'm glad I did. More filth came out of it than the whole rest of the project.
It's smooth, cool, and quiet. Time will tell if I should have replaced the motor or only serviced as I did.
This is the second time I've followed Chris' cleaning plan. First time was on a 25-year-old Coleman 13500 unit that I thought I was going to have to replace. Once done, it cooled very well again. The one I just did is half that age. The improvement isn't as dramatic but the project is totally worth it.

Thanks for posting this. You just saved me a ton of searching. My Coleman needs service, and the last time I used it, it did the same thing as yours.

Thanks again!
