Update Norcold 1201LRIM jumpered thermostatic switch

The subject line pretty much says it all.

Freezer is cold; -9C (15F)

edit***I just checked the back wall of the freezer using an IR thermometer: 3.9F***

Fridge is way too warm, +14C (57F) and rising with the ambient temp: 29C (84F)

We are in southern Mexico. No parts or service here. We are supposed to be on the road to PV in the morning.

Thanks

It's a bit late for an update, but as they say, better late than never:

In Yuma in March, the tech found that it was NOT in fact the thermistor! It had simply been poor, likely dirty, contacts! When he removed the jumper and plugged the connectors back onto the thermistor the fans started up just fine! Heat turned them on, cold spray turned them off. Now in mid July the fridge is still operating as is should. :S

Well the fridge is working, almost too well!

With daytime ambient temps in the high 20s to low 30s C (low 80s F) and overnight temps teens to low 20s C (high 60s F) the in fridge air temperature remains around 2C (5 - 6F). Set temp is at 1. When it was set higher we would wake up in the morning with the fridge temperature several degrees below freezing.

Is this due to the fact that the fans are running 24/7 AND there are no vent covers?

Think about what you posted. The Thermister is what shuts the refer ON and OFF, not ventilation or lack of it. Fans on 24/7 just makes the refer cool more efficiently(quicker). Doug

I can't get the T stat out. Guess I'll just leave it jumpered for now.

With the fans running 24/7 it's down to -1 C in the fridge compartment when we get up in the morning. During the day it will go up to 6 or 7 if the door is opened a lot then goes back down.

Right now, at 3:40 PM at 30.5C inside the rig, the internal fridge temperature is 0C. but the door has been closed for several hours. Time to turn it down a bit more!

TOLD you it was a minor fix:B Doug

You didn't miss out on the big $$$$ Doug, We wouldn't have been returning through DFW anyway. :B

I'll see if I can pick up a t stat here anyway and install it when temps cool down as we go north. And some male spade crimp connectors so my jumper will be more than a piece of stripped wire stuffed into the female connectors! Less likely to fall out!

Thanks again Doug

Air temp in fridge: -1 ! OOPS got to turn that down!

Now just need the vent covers.

When I replace a cooling unit and/or the fans, I always change the tstat for the fans. I also run a 2 wire down from the tstat so you can jump the tstat at anytime to run the fans. It also helps to diagnois in the future. You do not have to pull the refer to diagnois if it is a tstat or fan problem. IMO, anytime the temp is above 75 degrees, running the fans 24/7 is not a bad idea. If it is in a slide room, they NEED to run 24/7 regardless of the outside temp. Doug

You can leave the fans running all the time- only downside is wearing out the fans, and noise.

UPDATE, need TECH question answered:

Three minute fix maybe. Temporary at best: Jumpered the thermostatic switch, fans are running! Just waiting to see if the fridge will cool now the fans are running. I'm sure the freezer will--it did before. . .

QUESTION: How long can I leave the fans running without the thermostatic switch operating--ie fans on all the time?

Moisheh, (or anyone else that might know) am I likely to be able to find one of the correct range in Puerto Vallarta?

Thanks

I just posted with a similar problem. I did a search and it came up with 0 posts. Now I find this one with almost identical symptoms. What gives?????
Doug Rainer states that the blockage is as hard as a weld. If so, how can this suddenly occur? My refer is in my new Winnebago Sightseer less than 10 months old. The refer has worked well since new. I bought it in Mesa AZ and the temps were over 100 outside and the fridge worked great but it did not stand up to the Texas RGV temps in the 90's only a few months later. is this an indication of poor quality on Norcold's part or is it an aberration?
I would appreciate your comments as well Doug. I just posted about a half hour ago.
Regards,
Lloyd

The odds are you have NO blockage, You have a problem and you need to get it in to your dealer for evaluation and repair. They will FIX your refer, NOT replace it. Things malfunction, and this (your worry) is one of the problems with these Internet forums. You think you have a MAJOR problem, when in reality it is probably just a minor fix. Doug

OOPS Double post.

Well here we are in PV with a styrofoam cooler full of ice and some in the fridge as well.

We'll be here for almost three more weeks and tomorrow I'm going to start the fridge and put a fan up where the upper vent cover should be.

IF it starts cooling, can I run the fridge safely with the vent covers missing?

Now, it won't run on AC! I guess I'll have to pull the cover from the control unit and look for a fuse. (After checking at the plug for 120VAC!)

I did say missing vent covers above, not removed. They were removed and are now missing. If you think the fridge not working is stressing us out you haven't read my threads on the Mexico forum about the stolen Jeep. :M With the covers safely inside. :S

I may have to start a new thread looking for fridge repair/replacement in Yuma on the way home.
