Video on Rubber Roof Replacemnt ?

I am trying to find a video or BLOG on self replacing a rubber roof
I have searched and can't seem to find one.

Looks like I will have to replace my roof next year ? I bought a
"Waterproof RV cover" from Empire covers this year and it is ok for the winter storage but I want some protection when I am out using the fifthwheel ( it is 14 years old )

I will probably buy a new fifthwheel next year but will give this one to my daughter to keep on her ranch for visitors so want it in top shape.

So, YOU have replaced a EPDM roof? I doubt it from your post. I HAVE. At least 75 over the years. Your post makes NO sense at all. Dicor has no skin by posting the CORRECT procedure. Moving the AC around the roof when replacing EPDM. What a crazy thing to say from someone that has never replaced a EPDM roof. You REMOVE all appliances from the roof as it makes it so easy when you roll out the new EPDM ...

My post would've made more sense if you had read it first ๐Ÿ™‚

1) I never said I had replaced the roof.
2) Dicor sealant does have all the problems that I mentioned - bubbling, shrinking, slow curing. From my personal experience.
3) You can move AC around if you go "liquid way", rather than rolling out new membrane. Was done by others - apparently not by you.

Sure makes me glad I do not have a rubber roof with all the things up there that I would have to remove. Maybe a trailer with one AC and one roof vent and no ladder.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Lots of good information here thanks!

No Need to fight boys everyone knows these posts are opinions unless they
post one with pictures like jmanatee did. ( an excellent helpful post for sure ).

There are good links with pictures by members in DIY section of the forum, I think one is by the forum Moderator. Check them.

I would trust those posts by members more than marketing materials by Dicor. Sales pitch is a sales pitch, aimed to sell it, not necessarily to tell the whole truth so that you'll have no problems with project. The only product by Dicor that I used, lap sealant - very popular here - was a lot of pain compared to similar sealant by Geocel. They don't tell you that sealant cures VERY slow, days - not hours, and in the process it makes a lot of bubbles, most of them shrink later - because this sealant shrinks A LOT, so you need to apply it very generously. You won't need their sealant for applying EPDM membrane to plywood roof, except around vents and the like.

Also, it is BEST to deck the original wood as the old wood and glue will NOT react well with the new glue. Doug

Go back to the main page of Open Roads forum, and you will find DIY: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/16537088.cfm

Search doesn't work well (in any section of Open Roads), so ask "roof repair posts with pics". There were at least 2 very detailed posts, I'm 99% positive that one was by Barney the Moderator.

There are two ways to go about EPDM roof repair: covering the old membrane with a Liquid Rubber or replacing the membrane. Liquid Rubber is also marketed as Liquid RV Roof, same stuff, higher price. You'll find those liquid things here: http://www.epdmcoatings.com/. Or - at Amazon.

Just make sure your roof is EPDM, because TPO is different.

On the removing the Air Conditioner issue

I have been toying with the Idea of using a dry wall Jack.
the jacks go 10'6 high and hold over 200LBS
a sheet of plywood ( or 3 planks ) under the jack and no problem rolling it back enough to lower the ac down.
I have hung a lot of dry wall with one.

Good ideas, everyone. If you don't want to build a platform for the AC, a set of scaffolding might work. You can rent scaffolding at Home Depot rental centers.

I went to a local metal storage racking supply house and bought myself one 10'x10' section of rack. It is wide enough for the front end of my truck to fit into and since it is 10 feet tall i can adjust the shelf platform to a comfortable height to work from. It comes apart for storage and is very strong. This is the same type racking you will find in any big box store.
I used mine the first time to replace and reseal all of the clearance lights on the front nose cap of the rv. It worked great. Then i just took it apart and store it behind my storage shed in the back yard.

Thanks for the information.

I watched some of the videos on the job and it doesn't look that hard ??

The only problem I see is me getting the AC off the roof then back on.

I will do the work outside in the summer and I have a 30' tarp to cover it at night.
I think I may build a platform up even with the roof to slide the AC onto until the roof gets done? I know my Daughter will want the 4X4 posts when I am done for her horse pens so no waste.

Thanks everyone for the link to the Videos. ( more dumb questions to follow )
