Xantrex Freedom 458 remote panel issues

Looking for some suggestions from some people familiar with the inner workings of the Xantrex Freedom 458.

Remote panel is no longer working. I did verify that the remote panel was functional by connecting to a like Xantrex Freedom 458, it functions properly. When I connect to My Freedom 458 the charge LED will light for about 30 seconds and then go out. None of the buttons/LED's will function. The Xantrex will indeed invert when disconnected from shore power and will passthru 120VAC and charge the batteries when connected to shore power. I also tried using other "proper" cables between the Xantrex and remote panel.
It appears the communications between the board and Xantrex 458 has failed.
Any suggestions? Is it possible to replace just the communications board?

Will not worry about it at the moment. I'm going to give it a good cleaning/inspection. If I absolutly need that remote panel I'll repair myself or purchase a new one.

Normal shipping is about $75 each way. $150. Then you have the cost of repair parts and labor. For a 10 year old Inverter, I would buy a new one. Doug

Contacted a Xantrex repair storefront on the internet inquiring about a control board for my 458. Heres the responce i got back;

I agree, it does sound like the control board.

Xantrex doesn't allow us to send out repair parts for liability reasons. We would have to have that unit sent in for the repair.

Already tried the reset procedure Dave but ended up with same results.

I have tested the remote panel with the 2 pair cable and it works. Does not use the outer pair when connected using the 6 wire.

Have a 6 wire data wired cable on my 458 remote panel, try removing AC and DC power let it sit for awhile and try turning on again from remote without touching the controls on the inverter, if you use the front panel controls my 458 ignores the remote. The 458 panel originally came with just the remote on off switch and I think it just requires the 2 wire for on off but think the full remote does require all 6 wires, correct me if i am wrong.

Reversed cable. By pair like a cross over cable, or in sequence?

Option 1: 1234 = 4321 would reverse inside pair and then reverse outside pair

or

Option 2: 1234 = 4321 is a straight sequence reversal (not a tech term)

I'm looking to remote my control panel on the PROSine 1800w. It's used and I'll have to make my own cable.

Thanks for the link. I believe I do know the person you are referring to, Clayton Smith of Claytronics. I worked with him when I was an RV tech at RV Lifestyles. We had a rig roll in with a fried Xantrex 458. I pulled the 458 and Clayton rebuilt it. I believe he replaced the power board. Very nice knowledgeable guy. I did email him a couple weeks back about my issue but never herd back so I decided to give him a call and had a very nice conversation.
This is what I was told. The communication cable between the 458 and remote use a 2 pair reversed cable. A 3 pair reversed cable (6 conductors) will work, it just does not use the outer pair. I did verify this theory while working in the shop.
The 458 has three boards, The first behind the front panel is what's called the transfer board. Behind the transfer board is the power board and across the top of the two boards is the control board. The communications circuitry is located on the control board. The internal fuses have no effect on the communications side. I do know the control board is still somewhat functional because the 458 functions as is should other than the remote panel issue.
Looks like I'm on the hunt for a control board. I was also informed that it MUST be a control board from an EXACT same model.
