Alternative Generator For our campers

Given the limited space in truck campers and to avoid carrying gas I was wondering what people think about something like this:

Car Based power generator

They seem to have both a "1000" watt and a "2000" watt model though the later is pricy.

Yes, leaving your trucks engine running to generate a 2000 watt power source (or running the starter battery dead)...much more efficient than a small gas generator...

Sure is, especially when most modern electronically controlled engines need a minimum of 11 volts to keep running.

Yep. Ignorance=gullibility. Perhaps this OP will be a bit enlightened by our scathing review.

What bothers me is that people build and advertise this stuff as if it's some kind of miracle. I wouldn't feel good about fleecing people with nonsense and glitz advertising.

Isn't the public gullible? Go buy a Xantrex or an AIMS Power PSW inverter and a set of jumper cables and be happy, for hundreds less/

No battery.
Worse than I thought.
Saw those cables and assumed incorrectly that was to charge the RV battery direct or jump start the tow vehicle.

and so far we don't even know if it's a pure sine or nothing better than something you'd get in an auto parts store.

It's an extremely over priced inverter. If you want an inverter then just buy a good quality one for a couple hundred bucks. Samlex, Xantrex, Victron, etc. are good brands.

FYI - I am pretty sure that adding a pigtail to a furnace does not meet the National Electrical Code !

This does !

It’s just an inverter, some jumper cables, a strap to hang it from the car, and a weatherproof enclosure If you buy a weatherproof model. No battery. The vehicle has to run all the time.

The “inventor” says it’s ok to idle for 50-70 hours non-stop.

And if you buy now, you’ll get a set of steak knives. And a Chia Pet.

For actual generators I recommend solar first and secondly something like my Ryobi 700 watt propane burner.
