Ceiling Television Mount - Coachmen Catalina

Hello

We want to put a 24" TV in the bedroom of our 2012 Coachmen Catalina 27FCBK.

There is a spot on the ceiling that is labeled "TV Backer" along with electrical and cable outlets. I tried to use a stud finder to find / confirm that there was actually something there to attach a mount to (and be confident it would stay attached as we travel) with less than convincing results.

I want to install a Mor/Ryde TV1-012H mount. We have a Mor/Ryde TV1-021H for the TV in the living area and are very happy with it.

Has anyone installed a ceiling mount in a similar location in a Coachmen TT?

Also does anyone know who might sell this particular model mount in the Portland, ME or Boston, MA area (we are traveling thru there in a couple weeks)? The Canadian price on Amazon is $219 plus HST & Shipping while the USA price is $107 with free shipping but they won't ship it to Canada on the USA site. That works out to be about 2 1/2 times the price.

Thanks

You could test the mounting location by drilling the ceiling with a small drill bit.
The price of that ceiling mount bracket is outrageous. I'd shop around for a different brand.

Try a small magnet. A piece of sheet steel is often used in walls. But for hanging something that could be around 20 lbs total (mount + TV) I think you'd want something secured solidly to the joists. I'm not sure what they put in ceilings for a backer. If there is something on the ceiling nearby that you can remove like a speaker, A/C vent, roof vent bezel, light fixture, etc., that might give you enough access to determine what's up in the cavity and it could potentially allow you to slip a piece of wood in there, supported by the rafters. We used to have a Catalina and IIRC, the rafters are on about 16" centres and you can measure back from a join in the panels.

I would look for a mailbox place on the US side of the border. With many of them, you can register online. Shop around on the internet and buy the item online, then just get the item shipped there. We have a US mailbox that we use all the time for things bought online in the US and it saves a ton of dough...

Here's a link to one on eBay. Looks like this seller will ship to Canada.
