Clear coat protection

Good morning, we just purchased a 36' travel trailer and were offered the usual plethora of protection goodies, none of which we are considering accept the "never fade" paint protection. Clear coat protection. Runs around $2000 Canadian and kinda makes sense for resale value, decal delamination issues. But pricey eh?(had to throw that in there, sorry). Does yearly waxing and the work it involves do the same thing? Is there other finish protection options? Thanks for your input.

Thanks folks, if a guy purchased all the stuff they throw out at new purchase time you could buy a second trailer and store the first! Then it would never wear out. Thanks but no thanks. Appreciate the feedback.

heh! Loved this comment.

The less you use it the better it looks.

X2. When it comes to trailer values, they fall quick and there's not much you can do about it. You can get the same effect just by keeping it cleaned and waxed. The dealer will offer you the same amount of money rather you have the protection or not on resale.

They did spray something on it because it was on the storage compartment locks. I had to squirt a little oil in them to get them to work easy again. It looked like a clear coat to me. The inside had a strong chemical smell when I picked it up. Something happened to it..

How many trailers need clear coat protection? I have never had a trailer that had clear coat on it. The aluminum ones are a simple baked enamel (no clear coat) and many of the smooth sided ones are gel coat (no paint or clear coat). So which ones could benefit from clear coat protection?

BTW, my 2006 trailer has always been outside, never been waxed, and still looks great. Decals have minimal fading and are adhered as well as the day it was built.

DITTO.

I suspect they don't actually do ANYTHING to the RV when the collect the outrageous fees for so-called "protection" products.

Clear coat is nothing but trouble on cars. When it goes it is very expensive to fix. In the old days you could just buff out problems with rubbing compound. I hate clear coat. Just wax your trailer if you are fastidious.

Like others said. Just wash it, and wax it. Best thing you can do. Keep it waxed, and it will look good for years, and years. Keep it waxed, AND covered, and it will look good forever.
