Cummins Water Pump

Finally. I got a call from my service advisor letting me know they actually have the new style pump and set me up for tomorrow. I haven’t heard anything from FCA though. I absolutely love my truck, but slightly less than thrilled with FCA and how this recall has been handled and drug out. I received my initial recall notice end of September and here it is mid March. I hope to never need them again.

I just looked at mine. It was supposed to have been cleared when I bought it. I checked the VIN it says it was completed.
Mine is flush, with a vent hole.

Does yours look like this or does the shaft stick past the end of the pulley? Like the pic it gets replaced!

Hi cummins12v98, my water pump looks like the one in the picture. The shaft does not extend past the pulley.... so i will need a replacement water pump. As it stands now my dealer has one on ordered . I did not get a time as to when it will arrive at the dealership. Thanks for the help.. Jim2007

I have known about this issue for many months being a member of the TDR. Sure did not loose any sleep over it! Things take time to go through the process to get thousands of pumps made. Bottom line is if the darn thing failed they would be responsible for any damages. Or if it REALLY bothered me I could have just bought a replacement pump and installed it within one hour and then get it replaced later when they had the replacement pumps.

CHIT don't get done overnight! Like I said they could have just waited to let people know there was a problem when the pumps were available but the LAW dictates they let people know of the issue even before the fix is available.

I called the local Dealer today they did not have a pump as they used their last one and expect a delivery of more within a couple days. I scheduled mine for next Wednesday. I will call Tuesday to make sure they have a pump for me with MY NAME ON IT. This way I make one trip to have the issue dealt with.

My frustration with FCA and being contacted by my service rep rather than FCA first. Maybe I worded myself wrong IDK. I have the means and skills to do the pump myself and have kept a close eye on it. I'm fortunate enough to be very near a reputable dealer who takes pretty good care of its customers and have a good relationship with them. I was good until the sarcastic comment that was unwarranted and uncalled for (Cummins12v98). I always try to be respectful on here and all other forums that I belong to and expect the same in return. If I ask for it I can take it. That wasn't the case here and its not appreciated.

BTW, I got the work completed this morning and was in and out in just over 2hrs total. And apparently, my truck isn't effected by the shift lock issue. If anyone happens to be near or passing through LaGrange GA, give Mike Patton Dodge/RAM a shout if needed. They are good folks. Not perfect mind you, but they sure beat the pants off most dealers I've dealt with.

FCA sent you a recall notice to take your truck to a dealer and have it checked, correct? It is the dealers job to check your truck to see if it is affected by the recall. If it is they order the part or parts and notify you when the they arrive not FCA! It is the dealers job to call you!

As for Cummins12v98's comment "So what should they do??? Not tell you anything then one day get a call and say go to your Dealer????

Wow what an inconvenience!". I'm not sure this comment warranted such a reaction on your part IMO.

Glad your dealer got the truck sorted out for you and hope everything is better.

Don

On Edit, you say "Facts huh? Well why didn’t you ask for facts?

I did go to the dealer and had it confirmed. The same time I had the SCR recall done which is why the service writer called me.

So did the dealer tell you about the water pump recall or FCA? Not being a dick here but you post is really confusing as to what you are up set about. This was your first post "Finally. I got a call from my service advisor letting me know they actually have the new style pump and set me up for tomorrow. I haven’t heard anything from FCA though. . As you can see you say the dealer called you to tell you they have the new pump. If your truck was affected by the recall you should have gotten a notice from FCA to take your truck to your dealer and have it checked. If you never got a notice then FCA via your VIN knew that your truck was not affected and as such you would have not been notified of the recall! That is how it works, FCA, GM, Ford and all the rest send out recall notices only to the vehicle owners that are affected. They (usually) know when the issue first showed up and can use the build dates for sending out recalls.

So 6 months waiting for them to get parts in to fix a vehicle that could leave you stranded on the side of the road like what happened to IdaD is ok with you? Well, it’s not acceptable to me. Yes, I could have made other arrangements and fixed myself and submitted to FCA for reimbursement. But I wanted it fixed by them as that’s one reason I bought a new truck with a warranty. And next time just keep your smart a&& comments to yourself if you don’t have anything worth adding.

Thin skinned I guess. FACT is they have to notify you. It takes time to get this straightened out. You could have gone to the dealer and had them inspect your to see if is actually one that would be replaced.

Why do you assume things? I assure you I’m not thin skinned either. I just don’t tolerate mouthy people very well and have zero problems pointing out this FACT!

I called the dealer last week and confirmed they had pumps, set an appointment for yesterday to change it and took the truck in. They said they would inspect it and see if it needed the new pump. No pumps, but I needed the pump changed and would be put on the list when the next batch of pumps come in. I was not happy. But then I was not happy when Chevrolet told me I could buy new heads for my 6.2, but they would crack also. Not happy when Ford told me 250 miles on a quart of oil is normal. So other than the Recall Du Jour ( 7 now) I like my truck and it's not had any other problem. If I drove it a lot I would have changed the pump myself and moved on.

^^^^^ This I would not be happy about also!!! Saying they had a pump then they did not. They are supposed to tag the box with your info so it does not get used on another vehicle. Dealer not RAM is at fault on this one.

I would ask to be compensated like a good discount on parts.

Yeah , you don’t have to answer that one publicly.......
Now, quit being 70 year old snowflakes that expect instant gratification.
I get that it’s annoying, but seriously, if you can buy a $40-70k new pickup, a $100 water pump is not a big deal. If it’s that disconcerting to you, replace it.

If this was something expensive, difficult to repair or otherwise significant, I could see being more upset over it.
Wife’s car, found out it had a cooling fan assembly recall while I was researching the part number to replace it. My options were spend $180 and go get the part and replace it that afternoon, or spend literally 8 or more hours of my life and the other associated hassles to get it fixed “free.” Car was running again by beer:30.
Lol. Cheers

LOL, too funny! :B

I definitely hear what you're saying. Since I have the SCR recall still outstanding I will try to get the dealer to do the pump as well during the same visit. If that doesn't happen by the time the longer road trips this summer with the fiver, I'll be doing it myself now that the upgraded pumps are available. And having a couple of cold ones during the job is an added bonus....:B

Don't be too surprised if you need to add 1/2 - 3/4 gallon of antifreeze after the fact too. Depending on your dealership/technician, they may not top off the overfill tank. From what I understand, FCA expects the tech.'s to re-use the coolant that spills out when the old pump is removed.
