First trip with my new Duramax

All I can say is WOW. My 2004 6.0 gas did the job but going up I-80 and over Donner Pass I would have it up to 4200 rpm and doing 45 to 50 max in second gear. My 2016 duramax was effortless. I followed suggestions here on this board and kept it in cruise control and tow haul mode as much as I could and the truck did the rest. It maintained 62 effortlessly and I never touched the brakes unless encountering traffic. Tow haul mode would engage the engine break going downhill when needed. All I really did was steer.

Good report! My 2013 Duramax was great except I kept getting engine lights. After several attempts at repairs, GM bought it back and gave me a 2016. I wasn't worried about buying another Chevy because of the great customer service from my dealer. I can verify your experience is the same as mine! Great truck for towing.

Awesome crop of diesels available right now. They make towing a lot like not towing in many respects. Being a resident of the west you will particularly enjoy how it goes up and down our mountain ranges.

No, you are not suppose to have a great driving experience with a diesel. You are suppose to worry about emissions issues and the high cost of engine repairs while wishing you were back in one of those gas trucks that you see filling up at every gas station you pass.

Just kidding! Glad you had a good safe and pleasurable pull in your new toy.

Another gasser owner goes diesel and sees the light. No surprise to those of us that know diesels flatten the mountains.

Your story is great and true and we have liked our 05 for towing a 35 ft alpenlite since it was new, however no way will I test drive a new duramax. It ya don't under stand it is because it would take a full box of tissues to wipe the drool during the drive. Enjoy chevman
