Fleetwood Electrical problem ??

2007 Utah CP.....C.O. Detector keeps beeping even though nothing is on...beeps even when the camper is closed up for the Winter till the back up battery dies.....when plugged into the house, and we go in the camper and put on an interior light, the light seems to pulse.....when we first plugged it into the house, the Converter Fan kicked on for about 20 seconds, and hasn't gone back on since (that we know of).....just trying to give a full background. The Camper Battery is near it's one year Warranty period, and my feeling is that I have 2 problems.....a C.O. Detector that needs to be replaced (I'll get a C.O. / Smoke Detector that operates off a 9V battery, not hard wired)....and a Battery that also needs to be replaced.....what say you ???

The good news is that you've identified the problem. Of course, it is the most expensive part of the electrical system short of appliances.

Put in a decent quality unit like you can find at Best Converter's website. You can always hit the "Ask Randy" button and get a solid response and recommendation.

Thanks:)

I think CO detectors need to be replaced every 7 years or so. I know our house one started acting up, so we replaced it.

When I pulled it down, it had a sticker on it saying "Replace May 2012". I was worried that with it being hard wired, it was linked to something else.....haven't used the camper with it disconnected, so I guess I'll find out next trip out. Confirmed thru the manufacturer....Converter shot:(

Disabled the CO detector (wires cut), and well get a Battery operated one.....the Converter issue continues....the pulsing stops when solely on battery. Email, and phone call put in to World Friendship Co, the maker of the converter.

I'm gonna see if the local RV place has a replacement C.O. detector....as far as the Battery, it may have to wait till we get home from our trip ($$$)....Thanks

This is inherent behavior of the type of power converter that Fleetwood used. While it is a WFCO converter and that is generally a decent albeit basic level 3-stage charger and converter, the model(s) used are not that robust for stable power.

Have you, by any chance, installed LED lighting?

With as little information as I have, I would actually look more to the converter for troubleshooting. Your CO detector is certainly due for replacement due to age. Thankfully, my 2006 Fleetwood has a 9-volt battery operated model that I replaced in kind.

And only from your narrative, it sounds like maybe the converter is not charging the battery. How often do you plug the PUP into shore power before a camping trip? Depending on where you got the battery, they may be able to test it to ensure that the battery itself is not also faulty.

You have a number of issues here that may or may not be related. I would start with replacing the CO detector as that needs to be done regardless. Then look at the battery to rule out a faulty battery.

The pulsing of the lights even when on shore power will be a function of your converter as they are 12v DC lights. If they are incandescent, then the fault is truly at the converter level. If the lights are LED, there are some compatibility issues involved. Ask RoyB about regulated LEDs, the converter and pulsing light in his PUP.

it is mounted on the roof, and is hard wired with a backup battery. Does have a dector for a propane leak on the floor that is Good. Any idea on why the interior light is Pulsing, while plugged into the house electricity?

Is this detector mounted near the ceiling or just off the floor?? If it is near the floor, and far as I know, the only one that is hard wired, is the Propane detector. You might check for a propane leak.
