Hi im looking to buy a rv and just looked at a Fleetwood quanium 290, it has one slide out, the question i have is i noticed at the bottom of the wood trim on both ends of the slideout it looks like some water damage, if this normal or a problem for slideouts, i slso noticed inside one the bedroom cupboards the wood is damaged, i didnt notice any other damage, it had been raining all day and i didnt notice and fresh water anywhere, the unit is priced at Mid 9,s , from talking to the person that showed me it i think the trailer is being flipped, from auction or other , can someone who is somewhat of a rv expert give me their opinion, any help would be much appreciated

Water damage can be the kiss of death in a trailer. If it leaks where you can see it, there could easily be many other places where it has been leaking and you can't see the damage. I an older unit, the caulking may not have been kept in good shape to keep water out plus water can get in all sorts of places you might not think of. If it has wood framing, it can rot and you can't tell until you peel off the inside or outside skins.

Even if you got it for free, I'd run.

A couple of decades ago we bought a long 5th wheel to live in temporarily while building a new house on acreage. We paid around $10K as I recall. I knew squat about RVs then. When we went to sell it, anyone who looked at it said the roof was leaking due to failed caulking and that the wood structure was probably rotting badly. Needless to say, we got almost nothing when we sold it. On the bright side, we could have spent way more than the loss on renting a house somewhere. Moral is, don't become a victim. Good on you for asking here first!

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

thanks, i,ll pass on it or run from it, i know the guy who showed it to me said he knew nothing about it, hs friend was the seller who picks up trailers, boats and sell them, my first thought was it was from a insurance auction and was flood flood damage, anyhow thanks for confirming what was in the back of my mind

Sounds like flood damage. There could be a lot that is unseen.

X2

The cost of any repair, even if you do it yourself, would be prohibitive.
