Home made HTT

So, I was wondering if anyone has built, or seen a home made HTT? If so, do you have any pics?

The reason I ask is I have an old 1967 shasta airflyte that is in bad disrepair. The wife and I were talking the other day about how cool it would be to build our own little hybrid camper out of it. Our thoughts were to tear it down to bare frame and build it back the way we wanted it. Our thoughts were to put the kitchen and a shoilet (what my wife calls one of those showers with a toilet in the middle of it) up front, then an l shaped booth/table and closet on the back end, with a fold out on either side. Of course we would beef up the trailer frame and install a stronger axel. THoughts? Questions? Concerns?

OTOH, we had a wet bath in our boat and loved it. We had a good size vanity with storage underneath. We did have a large shower curtain that was on a ceiling track that completely wrapped around the open area including the toilet. Kept the walls dry and also the vanity area. A hand held shower. Obviously a floor drain. We used it every weekend + any company we had onboard and had no problems. My thought now is that the wet baths are getting so small that there is no room for anything else, but if you're going to be building from the frame up, you could certainly design something maybe using a ready made 60" shower base, panels for the walls, the shower curtain you'd likely have to make to have it large enough, and then a vanity area. We also had a window in there so moisture was not a problem. Something to think about.

Our old HTT had a wet bath, which is the name of what your wife calls a a "shoilet". We hated it. We used the toilet but showered in public facilities. The wet bath was just too small to shower in.

BTW, I like your wife's term better!

If you've got the time, energy, money, patients, ability, and space to do it, it sounds like a great idea! You do know, when you get done with it, you'll probably have more invested in the re-made camper than if you just went out and bought a brand new one. But there again, there's no fun in that! Good luck.

Two men decided to go to the top of a mountain. One hiked the entire path, enduring harsh weather, cold nights, and the danger of wild animals. The other flew a helicopter to the top and he got out. Both made it to the top, but who do you think appreciated the view more?

Go for it! You'll be so proud of it when your done!
