Lance 2016 - 1172 Wireless Remote Sliders and Jacks

Hello to everyone,

We have encountered a recurring issue with our brand new 1172. First couple of times it happened I thought it was due to novice operator error. Of course, we checked remote control's battery and was replaced, checked house battery and of course they were charged and checked battery switch.

Basically, we can not extract or retract sliders and same for jacks. So, I took it to my dealer and he says this has happened in the past but its not a common issue. He proceeded by resetting the system control board which is easily accomplish by shutting all power...in my case, battery switch and removing solar panel fuse. Wait couple of minutes and turn back on. It worked while I was there. Sliders and Jacks were operational once more...my dealer is only 7 miles from TC storage...back at storage I tried again opening sliders and of course it didn't work...to say I was ticked off after paying for $43000 cash for a TC slider that didn't work is putting it mildly.

Again, I tried rebooting the board and it took at least 5 times to make it work...so I left storage thinking maybe the board just had a bad day. Headed to the storage yesterday to pick up TC. We were planning to spend the day at the beach this weekend. You guessed again, did not work. Now I'm really psst.

Called the owner at the dealer and he is advising me to take TC to Lance factory which is about 40 miles from storage...He is telling me that is very difficult to manually open rear slider, side slider is not hard because it can be crank operated. His afraid of creating undue damage to unit. I personally, don't blame him. He is a good guy.

So, after my soap opera the questions to current model Lance owners are simple:

a. Have you guys had this problem in the past?
b. Has anyone taken their TC to the Lance factory for repairs?

My dealer is telling that I shouldn't have any problem specially since I dont access to TC.

My beef with Lance will be:
a. Resolve current issue.
b. There has to be a way to install a good ole manual switch to operate rear slider in case issue appears in the future and you are stuck in middle of nowhere. Dealer could not help with switch request.

Any advice is appreciated!

Just a quick question.

How many batteries do you have in the Lance 1172????

Reason I ask is we also have a 2016 Lance 1172. And it only came with ONE battery from the dealership.

I did notice that after I installed the second battery, our slide out operations were a lot quicker and smoother, no matter if hooked to shore power or on their own.

But sure seems the slide out operation is pretty power intensive.

And, that pesky remote control for the jacks/slides sure eats those A23 batteries in a hurry. I now keep three or four new A23 batteries on hand all the time.

IMHO, unless you have a nearby dealer with a highly trained electronics tech, only then would I purchase a Lance with the remote system. Since visiting the Lance plant, we haven't had any additional problems but I'm concerned of getting stranded in the middle of nowhere and system having a hiccup.

Had an issue with my Lance 981 several years ago and decided to make the drive from San Diego to the factory. It was a good decision. Not only did they fix the problem I was having (auto transfer switch) but they identified several other issues that I didn't knew about and dealt with them also. They had a complete list of every call that had been made on my 2yo unit. I was very impressed.

BTW I believe I have seen posts about slide out problems with the 1172 on the LOA forums.

Good luck with it.

I actually drove up there 2 weeks ago. Also went to Polar RV Sales in Salem, NH. Really great guys at both places. Just want to see as many as I can and make the best choice. A lot to learn, so I'm taking my time. I really liked AF, but Host and Eagle Cap were even nicer, but not by much. I have to find an Adventurer 118DS to see as well, but hard to find right now.

Saw a Northstar 12STC that wasn't bad as well if I could live without any slides, which I'm not sure I can after seeing some of the DS and TS units. Can't decide yet where I can afford to compromise in my plan to do it all, just yet!

My remote supposed to work the jacks, slide-out and awning but AF gives you switches for the slide-out and the awning.
Carvemeister, go to Truck Camper Warehouse in NH and look at an Arctic Fox or Host.

Thanks for pointing this out. So what's a guy supposed to do if he buys a Lance (probably in NH) and lives in NY? Sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. I'm looking at options for my first camper and from the sound of this, I guess Lance will have to be scratched from the list. I was liking what I saw of the 1172 online anyhow. Guess I'll have to go back to Eagle Cap or Northstar who at least seem to have less problems.

What you are describing could be weak batteries. Have you checked battery voltage when connected to shore power? No shore power. Being so close to the manufacturer I'd go there first.

Plenty of power....even with generator running still unoperable system.

Not on the rear slider...yep, it's a f.u. design. I guess the brainiac engineers at Lance either fell asleep or the bean-counters reprimanded them. Lol

Thanks guys...thats good to hear! This is my 1st TC but not my first rv. I'm a a bit disappointed on the system failure with no redundant back up.

There is no manual way to retract the slide? THAT is a no go for me!
