Last report (I hope) on the 2014 Kodiak 279RBSL

My Kodiak never fails to disappoint. We traded it for a new Bighorn 5th wheel. The living room slide refused to close (in our yard). The dealer sent a tech today to get the slide in and drag it back to the dealership. It turns out that the slide failed because some very poor welds broke under the slide. We managed to lash the control arms together with big tie wraps and got the slide in. It's been raining here. The trailer has been covered all winter, but we opened it a couple of weeks ago to get it ready to go. This morning we discovered yet another leak. This time in the range hood vent.

The tech said that he has had a lot of Dutchmen trailers come in under warranty for leaks lately.

Trying to haul the trailer off our side lawn, the tech got stuck in the mud from all the rain we have had in the last few days. My wife had to leave work and pull him and the Kodiak out.

But wait! That's not all. On the way back to the dealership the tech had a flat tire. I don't know if it is on the trailer or his truck. My money is on the trailer.

Potential Kodiak buyers beware.

Yeah, they may be built close in location but it's not everybody that gets a swimming pool in their underbody. Right SL?;)

Not to rain on your parade but you do know that Heartland is made by the same company that makes Kodiaks, right? The plants are 20 minutes from each other, basically just up the road. Both owned by Thor. http://www.thorindustries.com/corp/recreational-vehicles

But if it does make you feel better then by all means. Now, our Kodiak has had some issues too, but all were resolved under warranty. I would still buy a Kodiak. In the beginning I freak out all the time. But you do have to remember, the entire slide mechanism is built by Lippert Components. Look around your heartland, if you see LCI sticker, that's who makes it. The frame, doors, slides, all of it. Also it is in Goshen, next to the two plants.

It felt really good to see it disappear. Can't wait to bring the Bighorn home.
