My spray port is a bit different - how to winterize it?

Hi,

We bought our new to us 2008 Gulf Breeze in the spring, from a dealer 2hrs away from home.

This summer, when I used the spray port for the 1st time, the water was scalding hot. I looked inside, and for some reason, the previous owner (or dealer) connected the spray port outlet to the hot water pipe rather than the cold! Weird! I did not bother with that as we don't use it very much - and eventually, I will do the switch... when I feel like doing it in the small space...

In the meantime, I'm getting ready to winterize.

My (stupid) question is: when I'm ready to winterize - and bypass the water heater tank - do I treat the spray port the same way I will do with the other hot water faucets in the trailer and pump pink RV antifreeze through that port?

For those confused, a spray port is common on toy haulers for washing off the toys. If you Google "RV spray port" your queries will be answered.
Ah ha. Thanks for the clarification.

Trailer has no outside shower. The spray port on the outside of trailers receives a quick-connect coiled water hose with a nozzle. Just to rinse off objects, pets, etc with cold water. Sorry, can't post pic or link.

So from your answers, I understand that by bypassing the water heater tank, the antifreeze should make it to the outside port, just like it does when I open all the other hot faucets in the trailer. Am I correct?

For some reason, my clarification can not be posted... I keep receiving an error message 520. I'll try later.

If the port piping is part of the hot water line system flush antifreeze through it like any hot water faucet.

If it is on the other side of the water heater bypass and directly into the tank, you may need to blow it clear with air.

You do not want to get antifreeze in the water heater tank, a little goes a long ways when it comes to tasting it in the hot water system.

Good Luck

Once the water heater is bypassed you should still get water at the spray port. I flush RV antifreeze through mine.

Yes. For winterizing purposes it doesn’t really matter whether it’s hooked to the hot or the cold water line. If it’s got water in it it needs to be drained or have pink antifreeze pumped through it.
