Anyone have any feedback on hard side Sun-Lite truck campers? Anyone know what the deal is with the parts on the back with the tail lights in them? Here is a listing with rear pick of what I am talking about.

Mich F thanks for the input. That is not the unit I am looking at it is just one I found wit a pic that showed the "pods" on the back. Is there a reason for them? any storage inside them? How did your camper hold up?

No storage inside the pods. Just Sun Lite's idea of a how to mount the lights. Maybe it was easier for them to run the wiring that way ? I never had any problems with the camper the four years or so I had it. It held up fine.

I am not looking at that one it's just the only pic I found that shows the "pods" on the back I was asking about. The one I am going to look at is A 2001 865 for about $4000 it does not have a pic that shows the back.

My very first truck camper was a brand new 2005 Sun Lite 800SE that I bought from an RV dealer for $8368 back in August of '05 and used it up until almost two years ago when I traded it in for the one I have now. The $7500 asking price on the one you're looking at on Craig's list seems a little pricey to me. See if you can get another $1500 knocked off the price. By looking at the pictures it seems to be in good condition so see if he will come down on his price. That wouldn't be by any chance a Sun Lite 865? MichF stated it correctly by saying those rear lights were in a fiberglass pod.

We looked at them. After we considerd the toilet, no blinds, etc. we went to Forest River & bought a Maverick. It had all the stuff I would have had to buy right from the factory.

I bought one new in 2004. Mine was a model 955SD, which I believe is the TC in the ad. It was relatively cheap at $10,500. It was 16'9" overall with a 9'7" floor. With a roof air it weighed around 2,600# or so. That one is designed for an 8' bed. I thought it was a good deal for the money. To me that one is over priced for a 2005 unit, considering what the price should have been when new.
As far as the rear lights they are in fiberglass pods or whatever.Chances are very good they've yellowed over the years.
I still have the little 4 page factory brochure with specs and whatnot, if you have any more questions.
