Whitehawk 28 DSBH vs Sunset Trail ST270BH???

We have the choice of our next camper narrowed down to two campers. The Jayco Whitehawk 28 DSBH or the Sunset Trail 270BH. They both seem really nice but each have something that is drawing us toward them. Both are 2014 and I'm very impressed with the updates that the Jayco made. One of the main things that I'm concerned with is that the Jayco's queen bed is 6" shorter that the Sunset Trail's. Does anyone have any experience with the Jayco's bed being too short, I'm 6'0. The couch is way nicer on the Sunset Trail but the bunk mattresses are really thin. Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have the zinger (made by crossroads). it has been a great TT to us. it has had very few problems all of which were covered under warranty. Crossroads has had some management upheavals lately. They went from a 2 yr warranty to a 1 yr warranty last year. This caused a huge out cry on the crossroads owners forum. There was also a rise in issues with tts over the past couple of years and what appeared to be owners having trouble getting problems taken care of. Customer service used to be number 1 at crossroads. Crossroads dumped several members of its senior management this year and gave begun turning things around. positive stories are coming back. rumors of fixing the warranty length exist but have not been confirmed. With the recent turn around I would be willing to consider a sunset trail when I shop for a 5er. As for jayco, when we were TT shopping in 2011, we were not impressed with the quality of the workmanship we saw. That said jayco has a large fan vase and I believe it still carries the 2 yr warranty. overall, it is probably a toss up between the two TT. I would settle it by which Floorplan gives you more what you want and need for the money.

sit in each TT, imagine where you will put things (ie moms clothes in that cabinet, kids toys in this drAwer, and dishes in this cabinet etc). Act out daily activities (mom cooking, kids playing, dad walking yo bathroom, trying yo watch TV etc). What TT feels like a better fit with these things? will you be boondocking, camping with primarily water/electric or full hook up sites? This will help see what size tanks might be a factor.

I can't tell you which one to buy. All manufacturers make good TT and all manufacturers make lemons. in the end it boils down to choosing the one that is right for your needs and then do a very thorough pdi to ensure it is a good TT. happy hunting.

They can if you like, just remove the strut and ad a latch, the dealer can easily do it for you before you take delivery.

Double check those Queen Bed measurements. It appears to me both at 60"x74" aka RV queen size.

I'm 6'1", for 20-30 nights I can manage on our RV Queen bed. I don't love it, it's certainly better than a tent, and if I could find the floor plan we liked with a full queen it would be a very strong consideration.

As for Jayco Whitehawk vs Crossroads' Sunset Trailer. I have no experiene with crossroads. I own a Jayco and have been pleased. The 2 year warranty was a significant advantage for me, however in 2 years our only warranty claim was a bad stero/DVD Player that was replaced in month 15.

IMO all manufactures have bad units make it out, really it's more about the specific unit you get, not so much about the manufacturer. As I said I have had no issues with my Jayco, some others have. Two friends of ours have Forrest River Wildwoods, one has been virtually flawless and the other has made several trips for warranty service.

Good luck

I think you will want the longer bed. Put memory foam on the thin bunks. One plus for the Jayco is the warranty is 2 years. We went with the Sunset and love it. If you can get a lot better price on one over the other that may be the way to go.

I would love viewpoints from people why they like the trailer they picked, if it was the Sunset Trail or the Whitehawk. Thanks again.
