Inquirees have made me think a bit...

and to share 2012 SPRING LOOP

the general plan... miss the tornados.... be home before the first of June

We are heading south thru Jimmy Carter country to Tallassee... and he coast... getting away from the middle America E/W interstates and the tornado alleys.

We'll be heading west and then down toward Brownsville... then follow the border to NM... North as far as rocky Mtn NP and then head east thru Nashville toward the end of May... we have never been inside the State Capital.

I'll be posting some as we go...

PS... the camperport did great in the storms, no damage that I can see... best $3500 I spent last year. I highly recommend it.

Janet wanted to take an excursion about movie sets on Kawaii. I'm glad she did. We saw more than 50 places; the tour bus would show us a film clip and then we'd see the actual site.

Do you recognize this one?

One of the problems that we had was luggage. We don't carry any luggage in our truck camper... everything either hangs in a closet or is put into drawers.

We solved the problem by purchasing a wheeled "carry-on" suitcase to haul our medicine and toiletries in. We also took some underware and socks with us.

When we got to Honolulu we went shopping... we bought all new clothes. Then in every port that we visited we bought even more new clothes... by now mostly "Tee" shirts with Hawaii themes.

On our last day in Honolulu we boxed all of the new clothes up and sent them back to Tennessee by UPS.

There is only one large cruise ship now.... NCL's Pride of America. The economy got the others. We were there on Sunday... the next big day is , OK!, you guessed it... next Sunday. (Hilo was on Monday and so on)

Many of the people in the tourist industry only have work that one day per week. We always "tip" well... many of the other tourists didn't tip at all.

The Pride of America carries more than 2000 passengers and more than 900 crew.

I don't think that we saw anyone buy anything from the artists under the "Worlds Largest" banyon tree.

When we had meals away from the ship we tried to have something as different as possible from the fantastic ship food.

For example: One evening we went to a very nice Lu'au (as a shore excursion). The show was very good... the food wasn't as good as we got at the buffet on the ship.

While we were cruising we took excursions at the different stops.

While we were on Maui we went down 126 feet in a submarine... and stayed more than an hour touring the sea bed. Now that is a big WOW! if I've ever had one. Janet liked it as much as I did.

We wanted to go to the Arizona Memorial. I asked one of the Arizona Memorial tour bus drivers how I could get on his bus. He said thad it was too expensive... I replied that I didn't mind the cost. He then told us to walk 1 block, get on city bus 20 or 42... they would take us all the way for $2.25.

We have been very trusting with the people that we meet as we tour the country in our TC... we decided that we'd try it.

We got on bus number 20... the bus driver asked me if I was on Medicare... I'm thinking... WHOA... what gives here. I said yes... he asked me to prove it... I went along, showed him my medicare card. He then told me that I only had to pay $1.00 for the trip ... and he gave me a free transfer to return to the hotel on. My wife dug her card out...$2.00 to travel and see the Arizona for both of us instead of the $35.00 for the tour bus.

The tour bus arrived at the same time as we did... the driver stood in line with us. he enjoyed it as much as we did.... the people on his bus had no idea...

If you go... it might cost you $2.25 apiece if you are young.

The cruise was our first... so was our visit to Hawaii.

We flew over a couple of days before sailing time and stayed at Wakiki Beach in a resort hotel next to Diamond Head (1/2 mile). The beach, waves, and surfers were a 100 feet from our room.

I meant to mention that the airport was about 1/2 mile away... you can see it across the water behind the camper. The following picture is from our room. (The window had salt or brackish water spray on it.)

We had free airport shuttle transportation provided by Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, and the Holiday Inn Express that we stayed in. It ran every 20 minutes.

As you can see... anything much larger than a TC wouldn't fit in here either.

Welcome home Chet & Janet! Looks like you gat a tan while over there! Where are you headed now?

Tennessee... we are happy and tired! It will take us a while to get there....

We are traveling east on I-80 through Sacramento, Reno, and Salt Lake City.... ? ? ?

Still very hot in the days but cooler at night. Boondocking might be painful... we are running the AC now.

Thanks again for your help.
