Inquirees have made me think a bit...

and to share 2012 SPRING LOOP

the general plan... miss the tornados.... be home before the first of June

We are heading south thru Jimmy Carter country to Tallassee... and he coast... getting away from the middle America E/W interstates and the tornado alleys.

We'll be heading west and then down toward Brownsville... then follow the border to NM... North as far as rocky Mtn NP and then head east thru Nashville toward the end of May... we have never been inside the State Capital.

I'll be posting some as we go...

PS... the camperport did great in the storms, no damage that I can see... best $3500 I spent last year. I highly recommend it.

Kentucky Vistor center... this area has kind of a deep south feel.

Note: TN is like 3 states... East TN is Mountains, then there is middle TN and the rolling land of Nashville, and then the western part is deep south which is just south of where we are in these pictures.

Done the Walmart oil...good folks and yes it is easy...also Jiffy lube can get you in. On the last trip I did an oil plus at a T and A..they do lots even change out the windshield wipers along with air and oil filters and fuel filter, it cost about $110 and it was all needed when I did it...it is a good value at T and A. If you are planning on using them call ahead and make sure thay have the filters for your rig and make an appointment. They got a kick out of doing my rig...it is a drive over pit and I was so small in between the two big rigs with their trailers...the drivers were asking me questions and it was all together a good experience...don't discount the big rig places when you need service or help! I use Wingfoot for tires and brakes that is the GY folks. Capt PJ

The Norwegion Cruise Lines. Pride of America doesn't have assigned seating in the resturants. It's called Free style.

There are 14 places to eat... two of the resturants require a collar on your shirt and no shorts.. but will accept dress jeans.
Reservations are recommended for these two but we ate in one as a walk in because we eat early.

The rest had pleanty of room, fantastic food and were open almost all the time.

DW gained 4 pounds and me 7 pounds... not LOL :E

......................

Oil changes are easy at WalMarts that have a high door on one of their bays... and a pit in the floor... about $45 for filter, oil, lube, fluids, air... for our duramax diesel engine... good work... you can stand at the door and watch.

And they have airfilters, etc too!

The fact that Sleepy posted the HI trip pics and comments...pushed me to making reservations for next APR. The DW has cruised many times before and this will be my first. We are alos spending another 6 days ashore plus getting there 4 days before departure...so we are making a BIG DEAL out of it! IT is our 25th. The prices are very good yet not cheap as other cruises go as they are the only one doing HI...no compition no need to lower prices and another fact is the crew is ALL American, due to the requirements of the Jones Act.

Other cruises around the world and to AK which I am familiar with out of SEA are doing some really good deals, plus there is much compition and the crew doesn't need to be ALL American.

The DW is so good at this cruise stuff she has got it all figured out about getting seating in the restuarants, by going directly to make seating reservations as soon as we board as it fills up. Another thing about cruising, an understatement for this group I am sure...but so many folks don't...TREAT the crew as if they were long lost pals, so to speak...as that will make your trip so much nicer and you'll be surprised what can come of it...be open and respectful!

I know from being an Officer on small cruise ships in Ak the last two summers...the crews talk and the ****'s in cabin 238 are A**HOLES. They were the last to get the cabin serviced each day and nothing special was done and it always took a while to get a request/demand filled...so use the Golden Rule!

It even got to the Captain and officers that these folks were a total Pain!

I am looking forward to being on the other side of the service experience.

Nine days until departure for our TC trip back east and along the south coming back. Just got the truck serviced yesterday, tranny filter and fluid, radiator flushed and new hoses, valves adjusted as required at 100K, did it at 108, and fuel filter changed...the oil and air filter will come due while traveling that is easy to do on the road and doesn't consume alot of time. Yesterday took 6 hours to get it all done. Yep tires are checked brakes are new last month, all lights are working and stuff in the truck haven't used for a year has been removed....looking in all the compartments of the TC and taking stuff out that I have not used either in the last year...lighten the load. Even got rid of the extra propane tank (2 gall) for the BBQ as I cannot take it thru the tunnel in VA across the Chesapeak. As I leaned many years ago in BSA, "every ounce counts"!

I sure am looking forward to this trip and then the HI cruise next year...WOW! Then in OCT a year away the Gkids will be tall enuf to go to Dland, the calendar is filling up! I sure do enjoy this place! Good camping to everyone. Capt PJ

Was that your first trip to Hawaii?
We really enjoyed our ten days there and hope to return for more.
Tough to get the TC there.

A couple months of home and you'll feel the need to fly the coup again.

It's been a pleasure to follow you on this outing.
Thank you for being so generous with sharing the details.

Thank you for your kind words.

We had never been to hawaii or on a cruise. My wife has always said that we'd never (be able) do Hawaii... which of course made me want to do it for her.

The whole Hawaiian adventure was so intense that it was a continious Wow! I'm surprised that only one person asked about how much it cost... and it wasn't on the forum. They'd just bought a $279,000 winibago... but told us that we could have gone to hawaii cheaper. Go figure.

As I'm sure that anyone that knows us in person or on the TC forum knows we would divulge every detail on costs... we'd like to see all of you go some day. I'm sure that you feel the same way.

Traveling has been so economical over the last 5 or 6 years that we'd actually accumulated enough to pay all of the costs in total when we got back to San Fransisco... Janet mailed the total to the credit card company.

Our flights were about $800 round trip for the both of us from San Fransisco on Hawaiian airlines... and they served HOT meals both ways... breakfast and dinner complimentary!

As far as the camper... no island is big enough for us to get much use out of the truck camper... the ship is a neat recreational vehicle... the state room has the same coziness. Get the BALCONY... a few dollars a day... priceless addition.

It's funny... I think we get a sense of who will "make it" as extended (TC) travelers... you'll be one of them.
