This ship was run by the Canadian Pacific Railway Great Lakes Steamship fleet across Lake Superior to Thunder Bay. Pretty neat tour. There is a small campground right in Port McNicollRe: Circle Superior in October?where was the picture of the falls taken ?Re: Metric System in CanadaMetric air is actually sold by the English PoundRe: Lake Superior Grand Circle TourWe traveled north of Lake Superior on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd last year. The tree colors were beautiful. It was also the start of black bear season and we saw several bears at the side of the road. We found some provincial parks were open, and others were closed. The same with private parks. Many private ones were closed. Different parks must make their own schedules. Probably have to contact the parks individually by phone.Re: Nova Scotia in July without reservations? We traveled New Brunswick and Nova Scotia from Mid June to Mid July last summer. We have a 32 foot class A with a toad. We did not have trouble finding a place to stay. We rarely made a reservation, and when we did it was usually only a day ahead. If you are going to be near Halifax during the week they have the Tattoo, its worth a visit. Half price tickets are sometimes available for the Tattoo on week days. We stayed at Shubie park in Dartmouth, across from Halifax. Got a reservation the day before because it was going to be over Canada Day.Re: Edmundston NB area & CG recommendationsWe also stayed at De La republique Provincial park at Edmonton. We spent 2 nites in late June 2015. It was a nice Provincial park, a good parking spot, very few neighbors, and quiet. Internet was available only at the park office. We did tour an adjacent small automobile museum within walking distance of the campground. Not big, but worth our time.Re: Best trip mapping siteI like “ Garmin Base Camp “. Its free from Garmin and if you have a Garmin GPS you can plan and load the route directly into the GPS from your computer. From www.poi-factory.com/ I added their campground listing which is much more comprehensive than the one built into the Garmin unit.. All the poi factory lists ( for example, Wal Mart, Cracker Barrell, ) can be downloaded into your GPS. poi factory is updated regularly by its users, so is more current than anything a GPS manufacturer can provideRe: Modification ideas for boondockingI would use a wave 8 heater instead of a wave 6. I have used both in a 32 foot class A. The extra heat is useful. My heater is on legs and I use a 12 foot hose with quick connectors rated for propane use. The heat is directional so it helps to be able to move it around. I keep the heater in the shower with a cover on it when not in use . Have used it at 7000 foot elevation with no problems.Re: Newfoundland ferryWe made the trip last summer with a 34 foot gas class A towing a Honda CRV Note that I am talking about two different ferry crossings here The Marine Atlantic ferry from Sidney Nova Scotia to Port a Basques Newfoundland is big. It has 3 vehicle decks and it feels more like parking in a large football field ( with a roof ) than a ship. I can’t see any problems here. We also took the trip from St Barbe Newfoundland to Blanc Sablon Labrador just to say we went to Labrador. This is a smaller, single vehicle deck ship. Still has room for plenty of semi trucks. The man directing the loading looked at our motor home and said “ If you don’t stay RIGHT BEHIND that truck, you wont get on. “ It was a big gasoline tanker trailer and as I closely followed 10 feet behind him I got to read all the safety and warning labels on the back of the tank. Coming back to Newfoundland from Labrador they did not say anything, so it may be tide and load conditions that change the ramp to boat angle. If you take this part of the trip, this ferry may be the one to watch. The loadmaster knows what he is doing, and he does not want a hung up RV blocking his ramp. However he might not see something hanging down under the motorhomeRe: Ferry reservation to NewfoundlandWe are from Michigan and went to Newfoundland last summer with a 32 fot class A and a toad. A great trip. We spent 6 weeks there from mid June to August. Took the ferry both ways from Port Aux Basques. It is much cheaper than the Argentia ferry. Got ferry reservations about a week in advance each way. Loved the beautiful and friendly Provincial parks ( which usually have no services ). The camping rates are a bargain. We did not have campground reservations. Almost all the time they had a available openings. A few times we would have to wait til later in the day. People were reserving sites and not showing up, and after a certain time of day the park would release those sites to travelers like us if the reservists did not show up. Pre booking a campsite is no problem, but we usually decide where we are going after we have morning breakfast. Some private campgrounds can fill up with caravans for a day or so.
