The outside of loop 100 is probably your best bet then. Go for the backside as some sights actually connect in the back with loop 200 such as 107 and 239. Most of the outside sights are pretty roomy though. I want to say 135 was one we really enjo...
On the flip side, if you find something nice up that way let is know op! Last time I camped near Lake Placid it was on Algonquin in a back packing tent. Beautiful area and I don't get up there nearly enough obviously.
Bar Harbor Campground is a favorite of ours, but we liked Blackwoods in the park itself also. No hookups and a little stricter on overall length but we like the no frills places anyway.
