Another (!!) BC campground question.

Considering hauling up to Alces Lake Campground for a few days during our "Icefields" trip in Sept. Other than the road comments (!!), any info on the campground itself?? We are used to miles and miles of rough, graveled, steep dropoff type roads.

Basically, it looks like we should be able to get our trailer into some or many of the sites, but there is no real info on actual site lengths.

Stop at the hot springs on the access road to Whiteswan.

When I stayed in the park several years ago, the furthest lakeside campground was nearly full. Seemed to be particularly popular with Albertans who spent the day fishing (while the SO stayed in the trailer knitting? 🙂 ).

Get the Backroads Mapbook for the area, especially if you want to explore anything besides the main access road.

If you are asking about the Alces Lake campground in the East Kootenay's, it is a smaller campground. There should be several sites that will fit a trailer. There are also three other campgrounds in the same area. A couple of miles further will take you to Pack Rat Point on Whiteswan Lake, which also should have available sites. Continue along Whiteswan Lake and around the east end and you get to Home Basin which is the most scenic and busiest. The fourth is a few miles further past Whiteswan Lake and located on the White River. If you are coming in Sept. check closing dates on the B. C. Provincial Parks website. Alces and the White River campground may close after Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 5-7. The others may be open into Sept.
The road is a good gravel road, but will have logging truck activity on weekdays.

alces lake campground is a small campground better suited to smaller rigs,so you should be ok.keep in mind it gets very busy there in the summer.its not all that scenic there either, if your talking about the alces in whiteswan. if you really want a nice scenic lake try the forest service site at white tail lake.its about the same distance,but way nicer.it even has a small stream running behind the main camp.
