TIME TO PUT THE SCREWS TO THE PROCESS. YOU CAN STIR UP A LOT OF YOU-KNOW-WHAT BY REPORTING YOUR ARMED ROBBERIES TO "LA VOZ DE MICHOACAN"

(443)322-5600

  • Enlist the aid of a fluent Spanish Speaker
  • Have your police report handy, specifically the telephone numbers of specific MINISTERIO PUBLICOS and the FOLIO NUMBER of each case. You will need to furnish this to the news desk
  • Be specific! Have your interpreter state CLEARLY that Michoacan "Has lost your tourism FOREVER"
  • Tell the reporter that your case has generated "sensational interest" in your home country
  • You have ZERO CONFIDENCE of tourist safety in Michoacan

I know how things work down here. You know what rolls downhill. Big shots with big money are going to get REALLY unhappy to read this in the newspaper. Big shots with big money invested in tourism wield clubs with large rusty nails embedded in them. Get my drift? This will bounce its way to Mexico City so fast it will make your head swim. MINISTERIO PUBLICOS dread with cold sweat having their jurisdiction come under scrutiny. It is an ugly process. Don't believe for an instant that your telephone calls and reports will be ignored. LA VOZ de MICHOACAN is read all over Mexico. Opposition political parties will FEED on this horror story. And you need worry not about repercussions. There will not be any, EVER.

Yes, I thought long and hard about posting this and not me nor my Mexican friends can come up with ANY negatives.

Please make those phone calls!

Make shure that the news PAPERS get all the information and also place a complaint with RELACIONES EXTERIORES (State Department US equivalent) and DEPARTAMENTO DE TURISMO (Tourism Department) it may generate some more interest specially if these complaints are acompanied by news paper articles on the inscident.

Let these entities know that the NEWS will be picked up by the foreign press, that will smack them into some action, the property may never be found but it will itch the bottoms of the POLITICOS both in the State of Michoacan and the Federal District.

The last thing that that the new govrnment wants right now is a rash of bad publicity after the caputre of some bad elements.

The Dolisa RV park was empty when we pulled in last week.
It is a full hookup RV park and hotel in the heart of the very beautiful town of Alamos.
Our wagon master learned that the park has had only two rigs prior to our visit this year.
That is a real shame. . .and probably will see the closure of the park in the near future.

On the other hand RV tourists spend money here for longer, including fuel & tolls. And they also tell stories back home.

david: I never mentioned Michoacรกn nor did I intend any diminishing of the value of tourism . I simply stated that RV tourism is almost nothing compared to fly in tourists. Please put on your reading glasses.

OK, you're not only wrong, you are very wrong...

Tourism to the butterfly sanctuary, Patzcuaro, Uruapan, Paricutin, and Morelia amounts to perhaps A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR A YEAR INDUSTRY. Don't be conceited and pout that only extraneous visitors count. That is a myth. Visitors read stories and MEXICANS boycott the area. The ratio is about 95% to 5%.

I have a business in Michoacan and so do my kids. We are intimately familiar with HOW MUCH bad publicity affects out business. Get the picture? But we are small fry. It's the big wigs who cause blood to flow when tourism is affected.

To declare tourism in Michoacan is of no consequence is absurd. In comparison to Paris France, tourism to Cancun is a joke. This isn't about superlatives, it is about reality.

The way things rest on the Mexican books, and a stolen vehicle is written up and dealt with as "sold'" no matter what, a stolen vehicle always becomes prized as a Mexican Treasure. Why would police go looking for it?

If anyone really cared why wouldn't such laws be changed? Tradition, and loss of income. And tourism nowadays almost totally relates to fly- in two week holidays to designated resorts.

Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong. I would love to know that I am.

The way I outlined above gets results. Call it "payback". The most dangerous thing on the face of the earth is not a terrorist, or some Chinese virus. It is interrupting the source of cash income to a rich influential Mexican. It really isn't funny. Things get very ugly very quickly. People who "Don't Give A Damn" suddenly develop a nearly crazed interest in the subject.

If the Canadian Embassy had any "Huevos" they would apply some pressure to the Mexican Government. I would bet that no level of police has even investigated the thefts. Heck they probably do not have any record of what happened.
