Carrying Weapons North of the Border (cont)

Just for the purpose of keeping others informed. Please be advised that I spoke with the Chief of Firearms office in Canada last Friday. They looked at a list of permissible firearms and indicated that my particular firearm is allowed...with no restrictions. They also told me that they allow a combined total of 200 rounds to enter the country. I might add that they are very cordial. I would say, based on some entries of the original post, that people are very leery of those that want to carry firearms. I can certainly understand that feeling when "cowboys" brandish weapons. They make me a little uneasy also, but I ask you to notice that I refer to firearms as "weapons". I do that because I want to always remember that these things are capable of taking all types of lives. In the hands of sane, conscious, responsible people; they are safe. In the event that a less than rational person were to use a firearm to hurt people, you may be happy that you were in the company of someone who handled themselves responsibly. Keeping law abiding, rational, citizens from possessing firearms just makes it easier for the irrational to do harm to the innocent....they don't care about laws.

We do not need another gun thread; the initial one was closed for a reason.

Information regarding bringing weapons into Canada has been posted in a 'stickie' at the top of the Canada/Alaska forum.

richcarfg...I think many of us are happy with receiving factual information, like the first part of your post. It's when it veers off onto the philosophical part that makes me go cross-eyed. This is where and when it goes off the rails and gets closed.

Please...consider removing that part..and leave up the good info.

Brother Gary, I appreciate your honesty and input. However, the forum rules indicate nothing about sharing a particular philosophy. Had my philosophy been degrading or offensive to an individual, I could certainly understand your grief. My intent was to give someone information about responsible handling/responsible people with firearms.
It is not my desire to inflame anyone about my posts, but if people disagree with my statements, they should certainly have a right to do so. If they dislike it, and choose not to say anything...they can just move on. But to censor what a person has to say is not an option in my opinion. My philosophical statement stands. Someone else will have to remove it.

Your only concern at the border is to be truthful and declare everything.
If your rifle is a 30-30 and you have ammo for it, great.
If they find any other type of ammo they will go searching for that gun.
