Compare Dalton Hwy and McCarthy Rd. conditions?

hey there,
I understand that the Dalton Hwy is much longer than McCarthy, but has anyone traveled both that could tell me if the Condition of Dalton is worse than McCarthy? We just spent 2 days exploring McCarthy and Kennicott. If the Dalton isn't much worse, we might try trekking down it.

Hi Sue,

Can't speak about conditions for 2014 but we were there in 2013 and thought the roadway in good condition.

You can see my comments about our trip to Prudhoe Bay at my website in the signature. I give my impression of the road conditions. Just go to the section marked "2013 Trip Log - Alaska" and select "Alaska, July 26 to Aug 7". When the page loads just scroll down to July 30, the start date of the trip up the Dalton.

We made the trip in 2005, 2009, and 2013. The road condition improved every trip.
