Crossing Back Into The U.S.

We decided to go to McAllen for a booster shot. It's been two years for us.

They only have one lane open to the bridge and we entered the line at 11:52. Once you get to the bridge it remains one lane. On the U.S. side, they split up into different lanes for the border inspection.

That was at 12:52 and the agent asked to see our vaccination records, passports, and visa permit. Off we went three hundred yards ahead and we found the commercial strip center next to the Whataburger. They had the vaccination tent set up. We filled out the forms, no questions were asked.

A little tense on the toll highway at the two inspections. It looks like they have been hit a couple of times. Spikes strewn over the shoulders and one lane. The soldiers were very cautious and were changing the spiked chains from one lane to another during the 30 minutes it took us to get through. Both checkpoints were the same. Lots of scattered car parts and glass.

We saw four RVs heading south one of each class. Reynosa was pretty busy but calm. Soldiers and GN just about everywhere.

Heading back home Friday the 3rd.

Thanks so much for going to Texas and getting your boosters. That obviously made our president announce boosters.

Thanks, Playaboy. We crossed both ways at the Hidalgo bridge. Coming home today, the military inspection heading north was over 4km long. Something is going down, not for me to say, but we have never seen it that long.

Crossing the bridge into Mexico we had a green light. We know many people in Reynosa. It has its good points and is much better than Nuevo Laredo as a city. Many Mexicans have homes in McAllen as well.

Nothing exciting to tell other than the fact (I have to check my dashcam) a pickup truck either blew a tire or just lost control and flew, literally, across the median and onto the other side of the autopista. We pulled over, and he got out of the pickup and did a walk around. So, he survived! But, man, those things really give you a wake-up call to pay attention to the road.

Overall, a good trip. Our infamous president has now said he is authorizing a booster shot as Omicron has shown its ugly face in Mexico. This will be long term and we are ready to participate in the process.

I have to say, as much as I love Texas, it is in a constant state of highway construction. Hwy 83 has been under construction since I first visited in the early 80s.
