do US hard wired surge supressors work in SA?

Hello. Planning a 8-12 month trip to South America in a US modified RV. SA has no standard and varies from 120v, 60Hz, to 240v, 50hz, county by country. I plan on getting a transformer to deal with various voltage differences, but how do surge protectors work down there, if at all?

I haven't bought one yet for this trip, but if I were remaining in the US, I'd get this, to give you an idea: http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems-hw30c

Using a portable that isn't inside the camper is a bad option down there, due to pilfering.

Any thoughts on best practices?

Since you have large solar and inverter.... consider a separate charger that accepts all voltages such as Victron Centaur.
90v to 265v, 45 to 65 Hz, 20a to 100a.

Will only work on 120V 60Hz systems

Will shutdown/not allow 240V

Operating range is 104V - 132V 60Hz Systems
