Hwy 285

How is hwy 285 in northern nm to Espanola? Grades and amount of traffic?

285 from I-40 to Espanola is fine but goes through Santa Fe. Depending on the time of day you may be better off going south to exit 276 on I-25 and taking the 599 by pass around Santa Fe.

Towed my 35' 5er thru there from Clines Corner to Alamosa several years ago and don't remember anything memorable at all about any of it.

From what starting point?

Using Santa Fe as a starting point as an example, there's a bit of an uphill and then mostly down hill all the way. Approximately a 1500 ft elevation difference over 25 or so miles. Don't recall anything extraordinary about this particular drive.
