I75 TRAFFIC NEAR ATLANTA

Has anyone headed North on I75 near Atlanta since the bridge collapse on I 80? Wondering if a alternate route will be necessary due to the additional traffic.

I came straight through on I-75 8 days ago arriving at the south I-285 bypass at 7:45 PM. Got on I-575 (30 miles) at 8:15... average 60 mph. Traffic only slowed for a couple miles downtown and before 14th st north you need to be in one of the three right lanes as the three left for I-85 are closed shortly after 14th.

If you have two people and are willing to hammer down (you speed up when you get to Atlanta) you can use the left HOV lane (lane 7) and after downtown there is no need to merge to the right as the HOV lane has an exit to the left for I-75 north that you can take at 65 mph.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Swagman,

I live here in Atlanta. Traffic is much heavier than normal on I-75 and I-285 due to I-85 traffic being re-routed onto them. But on most days, it is moving, just slower than usual. Rush hour starts earlier in the morning and lasts til mid-morning, then starts again by 2 PM and goes til after dinnertime.

No real way around it, just try to plan for mid-day or night time travel through Atlanta.

BTW - I-75 north of Atlanta has had heavy construction for the last couple of years and that has had as much (if not more) effect on traffic as the I-85 problem.

I would suggest you route around by a wide margin when we left Stone Mountain on 4/10/17 headed north it was all backed up on the outer belt

We just went north last week and it was slow but moving.

Try and avoid rush hour times, and plan for traffic accidents because that's the real delay.

Sometimes 285N is less busy so use that as an alternative option.
