Indian rte 13

Has anyone taken indian rte 13 from east end of Canyon de Chelly to 491 just south of Shiprock, NM ??...it goes thru some mountains and was wondering what grades I would encounter!...

Thanks paulj......this from one of those posts you showed makes me think it is not a good route for me!..." However, continuing along the highway takes you over Buffalo Pass (aka Lukachukai Pass). This is no mild drive. It has long grades at 14%. We were in first gear, pedal to the metal, and losing speed. Coming back down in first, I still had to hold the brake in order to prevent run-away. We could smell it easily."...I would have to get out and push!!

I drove it in 1988 when it was gravel. A thread a couple of years ago reported it is paved, but still a significant climb. It crosses the Chuskas Mtns on the state border.
