Will be travelling from Cape Disappointment State Park to Maryhill State Park in Washington pulling tt. Has anyone taken Wash. Highway 14 - Lewis Clark Memorial Highway - rather than I-84? If so, would you recommend that route .
The highway has a bit of a grade, and cliff side views, at the west end where it crosses Cape Horn. And just east of that is Beacon Rock, with a stair climb. There's also camping at that state park, but access and sites are best suited to cars and small RVs.
There are a couple of paved highways into the National Forest S and E of Mt St Helens. That area has waterfalls and lava fields.
Further east at Maryhill, tent campers have to be ware of the sprinkler times.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it is the Lewis & Clark that explored the region. We have visited many of their historic sites, ( Cape D. ) and my wife bought a book of their journey.
We were there last month. Did 84 until Bridge Of The Gods because we wanted to see the different falls on the Or. side. We traveled 14 until U.S. 97 at Maryhill SP as we wanted to go to Pendelton. Good roads and scenery on both sides
If you are not in a hurry, I would be on WA SR 14. Many places along route for great views that are hidden on I-84. Yes, it is mostly two lane, yes it is very curvy. Much slower then I-84! More enjoyable!
I much prefer SR14 on the WA side to I-84 on the OR side. More scenic, less traffic. Good road surface. However, it is most all 2-lane, and the part between Camas and The Dalles has more curves. It's no problem for RV's of any variety.
