Planning a trip to Bryan, Texas Rv park looking for the best route from
I79 south west of Shrevesport. I am considering 79 to 59 to Nacagodoches than Rte 7 south of Crockett to 21/190. Not sure of a potential road closure at Carthage on 149. Any suggestions? Thanks

Good you see you on this forum, Scott. We are old friends on the NuWa forum. Hope all is going well with you. God bless. David

We had just made most of that route a couple of weeks ago so it was fresh on my mind. Much of it we travel many times a year.

You have asked for comments from Texans. While there are several alternate routes I will simply comment on the one shown on the Google map posted above.

You will turn off I-20 at Greenwood, LA on US 79 to Carthage. There is a loop around Carthage and while it is longer it surely will be quicker. Go around the loop to TX 315 to Mount Enterprise to pick up US 259 S. As you approach Nacogdoches watch carefully for the intersection with US 59. You will be turning R from the overpass. This is the end of US 259 which is an alternate of US 59. You will be going around Nacogdoches to the West. Watch for turn onto TX 7 toward Crockett. There is loop around Crockett follow it around to TX 21 toward Madisonville. We did find some construction on this section of TX 21 on a recent trip. There is no loop around Madisonville, you will have to drive through town. Follow highway signs. There you will pick up US 190 to Bryan.

That's good all the way. I started to write it all up but after doing about half decided "a picture is worth a thousand words" and went to the map. Now he has it both ways. 🙂

I drove most of that route north last spring. Good Texas highways all the way. I started to write the route up, but here it is on Google Maps: Route

Enjoy the trip!
