Been years since I have gone down the east coast to Fla from Maryland. In no hurry and would prefer not going interstate as much as possible. Was wondering how the tolls and road conditions, Detours, Construction, and traffic are now going Rt 17 and A1A. Driving a 24' class A MH.

Thanks for your input. I'm in no hurry to get anywhere. Just was wondering more so about construction and tolls. It cost me $36 to come down the Michigan Pike that I thought was crazy. call me a tight butt if you like, but that was too much.

If you're comfortable driving that, I'm not sure avoiding I-95 needs to be a priority. I've made a couple of trips to Florida without any problems, although I'm a little closer to 20’. Might still be reasons to prefer a more scenic route, but if getting to Florida quickly is a factor, I-95 does that.

We just came up US17 from FL two weeks ago. The only construction is right at the intersection of I95 but it was nothing. We do go around myrtle beach but have gone from FL to 81 in VA many times on US17.

2 Retired, Thank you for the information. This will give me things to look at on the road.Like i said I'm in no hurry for anything. You are saying that A1A is congested for you, is it because of the toad or is the road that narrow that i will be tight on the wheel for a long distance?

Don't know where you're starting in Md, but we always avoid I95 by using U S 301 to miss Baltimore - D C - Richmond - Petersburg mess. South of Petersburg I 95 is comfortable for us.(no tolls yet!) U S 17 is a good bit east of 95 through SC. U S 301 parallels the interstate for most of the state however. Can get very congested and there is construction and sometimes delays. You can take U S 17 through South Carolina, but seems a bit out of the way until almost through the state where 96 and 17 meet around exit 33. 17 has been improved. Almost every mile is now 4 lanes. Also, if you choose, take U S 17(locally called the ByPass)(NOT U S 17 Business (King's Highway) through the Myrtle Beach area. Business is all 'stop and go' with traffic lights on most intersections. I would suggest avoiding it through Charleston as well. I 526 goes around from Mt. Pleasant to just south of the city and it's well worth missing the traffic and narrow 17 there. (no tolls)Took 17 until we hooked back up with 95 around exit 33 around Point South, SC. Stayed on 95 through most of Ga (no tolls) into Florida. Then it all depends on where you're going in Fl. Just took a trip from MB to Ft. Lauderdale and found no problems avoiding interstates when feasible. A1A is still way too congested and narrow for us, with our 32'Class A and toad. Just our experiences.
