Hoping to find a nice road south that, hopefully avoids mountains and large cites, (Washington, DC,), down through Virginia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, and Georgia.
Thanking you in advance!

27 is mostly good all the way up into Alabama.....and maybe beyond....but it might be a bit far west, given his starting point.

Yes, retired. Thanks all for the great routing information. Almost got killed coming up the interstate to Carlisle. Very good responses!

If you're going in the off-season, why not just do 17 the majority of the way? See some beach sights. Eat some shrimp. No hurries.

Just an FYI. If you decide you want to stop in the Fredericksburg area for a day or two, you can spend a whole day visiting the Marine Corps Museum at Triangle/Quantico. The museum is free.

To continue on with schlep's route, US 15 to Culpeper VA to US 29 all the way to Greensboro NC. A few traffic lights around Charlottesville VA but it is a 4 lane divided highway with very light traffic all the way to Greensboro. A few hills but the "mountains" are to the west of you.

Safe travels.

I can't get you all the way there but I can get you started. US 15 south. Several ways to get to it from Carlisle on State Routes.
I'm familiar with US 15 south into Virginia where it hits US 17 in Opal, VA.. It is good road to that point. After that I don't know if it hits mountains or not. At that point we took 17 to Fredericksburg which puts you onto the I-95 corridor. Not what you want so somebody else will have to chime in to help you out from there.

Have a look at US 301.
It is a good road in FL, GA and most of N and S Carolina.
I don't know about north of that.
