Crossed the border at San Luis, the agents checked the registrations for both vehicles ( we were towing a car ). I asked him if we should get a 7 day visa for San Felipe. He said " no, for San Felipe you don't need it". We always do get the 180 day visa when we go for the winter.

It would do well to remember: Migracion does not enforce the regulation that states travel beyond the border zone means getting an FMM. This is a lot different than stating "A Tourist Card Is Not Required To Visit San Felipe".

The non compliance is by whim of the regional Migracion office and is not written in any law. That said, thousands of people go to San Felipe, without a tourist card.

I might as well throw this in because the area is a paradise for driving recreational craft while soused. If a driver "Has Been Drinking" and has an accident, their insurance is 100% void. No coverage toward you to victim. I know of no Mexican underwriter that will insure their inebriated driver. All a cop has to do is smell beer on someone's breath, grab a fellow cop witness, have them corroborate it, and presto the driver is without insurance. Yet I see many folks who reek of alcohol dismiss the idea that they are imperiling themselves and their passengers: i.e. Badly rear-ended, cops smell beer on victim, liability and collision coverage goes out the window. Same for hospitalization coverage for his passengers. Si Toma No Maneje...

Use to go often when it was a sleepy fishing town, and never needed anything other than insurance.
