Take the 201 (Stony Trail) around the city. There is bridge construction on Deerfoot (#2) that will cause delays at all times. The 201 can be picked up at the south edge of the city then catch toe #2 again at the north edge.

Calgary is certainly no worse than any US city. Read the signs, get out a lane from where all the short on & offs are happening & boom on through.

I recall last time, north to south, managed to do it without ever changing lanes.

201 (StoneyTrail). Is my choice. It is a 25 minute drive and is not a toll road.
When rejoining 2 (Deerfoot) you have to get over two lanes quickly or you will have to turn into Cross Iron Mills mall. The busiest section by far is Calgary to Airdrie 6 lanes.

If you're at Glacier, a faster way is to cross the border at Carway, just north of Babb. Then take highway 2 all the way in Canada. Much quicker than going to Sweetgrass. We do it all the time with a 28' trailer and F150 Crew Cab with long box (50+ feet total). No issues at all.

If you do decide to go this way, go north at Browning on 464 (Duck Lake Road) instead of 89. The road is much better and much easier with a long unit.

A good place to stop for the night is Lee Creek Campground in Cardston, just north of the border. Probably the cleanest washrooms out of any place we've been.

We spend quite a bit of time in the Glacier area in the summer and do the commute a few times. Let me know if you have any more questions or want more info.

There's a fun little museum at LeDuc, where they found the first oil in the region.

@Richard. I sent you a personal message and invitation on 25th April but I see it's still unread. Just letting you know if it helps you.

Just what the h... does all that nonsense mean?? And I grew up in Calgary!

Then I will bet you will be surprised to learn that the 11 story Palliser Hotel is no longer the tallest "sky scraper" in the city. :):):)

Seriously let's not confuse poor Richard. Just take Hwy 2 North all the way = straight forward and tons of huge vehicles go that route with 3 lanes and sometimes 4 at certain points. Just for ease try to avoid rush hour, and even then it's not what many go through in most major USA cities.

Been driving this city's roads day in day out for almost a quarter century and as much as Marquis of Lorne Trail (now renamed Hwy 201) is the south end of the circle road that has been in the planning since the 1940's and only recent years been finalized, it really does take you rather wide around the city limits, and personally based on directionals can be a little confusing to some.

Ever since our oil decline and huge migration and unemployment happened here, the Deerfoot/Hwy 2 even during rush hours isn't even close to how delaying it used to be a year plus back. Folks say it takes them 15 mins to get to a 9am meeting that in the past they'd have to leave 8am to make on time!!
