We are planning a trip to MBTP this April. Never been to that CG, usually stay at OL. Thinking that we may want to jump off I-95 onto I-40 to just before Wilmington and take US 17 south. This gets us out of the Fayette and Lumberton afternoon traffic scenario. Anyone have any thoughts on this route vs 501 to 22? Thanks, Mike

The beaches are wider at the northern end, and not nearly as much traffic. Personally, I take hwy. 9 to Longs, and stay at Willow Tree. It isn't on the beach, but its only about 6 miles away. Willow Tree has large sites surrounding a lake, some with your own hot tub. Also very close to Calabash, NC for their style of seafood.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

We always go this way: I-95 just past Lumberton, take 74/76 exit east, toward Wilmington, take Hwy 41 exit (only a couple of miles on 74/76) follow 41 over to hwy 9, that will go to Tabor City, straight into NMB, if traffic is heavy around MB we take 31, down to 22 and then into NMB., on moderate traffic days we go straight into NMB. Have done this for many years. Some 2 lane roads but no problems, not too much traffic. Happy travels. We stay at Briarcliffe.

I go this way when i go to calabash, nc. Its a decent ride. Theres some traffic lights on 17 that can be annoying but its certainly less crowded.
