Hello Everyone. Our Wagon Master blew an engine + cannot guide us to Playa Bonita RV Park. As a result all the rest of our caravan (8 rigs) has bowed out. We R determined not to let these events stop us. 1) what is the safety factor from Lukesville, AZ to Puerto Penasco? 2). Any recommendations? We already have our insurance papers, Passport, vehcle paperwork stuff in order.
With 64 miles to destination what else do we need to think about?
Don't need anyone's thoughts on those who have never been there before.
Thank you, in advance for your thoughts.

Been there many many times over the last 25 years. On a crotch rocket, in my Vette, Tahoe, towing the TT, never had any problems. Never even felt a threat and I usually go by myself.
I have even driven there at night, though I would be more comfortable during the day, in case of break down.
They do radar for speeders sometimes.

When coming into town on Highway 8 (before you get into town) you will see an EXIT to Laguna Shores, take it go about 5 miles and turn left just after you cross the railroad track. You will pass under a sign that says "Welcome to Puerto Peรฑasco" take this new road into the resort area, there is a "roundabout" with a quick trip store go around and continue to the resorts. (You can't miss the resorts they are very dominant). You will go through the arches that says "Sandy Beach Resorts", continue until the next intersection, turn left and follow the beach road (paved) for 2 miles or so on your left will be Las Palomas Golf course and on your right will be the condos. There is a small round about midway which is the turn to Las Palomas Resort, just stay straight. Right after that is a turn for Puerta Privada, stay straight. The next turn about 3 blocks or so down will be to Playa Bonita Resort Hotel and RV camp ground. You are there.Simply reverse this as you depart and you will avoid traffic, detours, pot holes and all that. I hope this helps all who are interested in coming down.

We just left PP yesterday. There are no problems on the road you will be traveling. You can make it yourself very easy. There is major construction on Benito Juarez so depending on which campground you are going to, there will be some detours. In going to PB the detours will take you on some dirt roads and there are signs, small ones, but there are signs for you to follow.

Yesterday, there was a backup at the south bound Lukeville crossing that extended about 1/2 mile

I have seen 75 year old widows pilot 37' motorhomes SOLO from Lukeville to Puerto Penasco and back. For that matter I have run into similar solo ladies camped in the Mayabel campground in Palenque Chiapas.

Elect a confident leader. You do have a tail-gunner right? Put the least confident folks in the middle. STOP outside PP and have someone SCOUT the way to the park. Positively and confidently lead the rest of group to the park the last bit of the way.

Yes this is overkill caution to the extreme. But if it is absolutes you desire then this is absolutely foolproof. DRIVE SLOW, do not freakin' crowd the rigs, leave room for locals to pass effortlessly.

And yes, I have led caravans all the way into Central America. Puerto Penasco is a piece of cake.

If your not sure about traveling alone just wait at the border in Lukeville and there will be other RVers traveling the same route. Then just hookup and follow them. A couple of rigs joined in with our group on our last trip a few years ago>>>
We'll be friends until we're senile-then we'll be new friends:::::

Just do it and you will wonder why you thought you needed to pay to join a caravan in the first place.

Regarding the road construction there is a back way in to the RV resort which avoids ALL construction altogether. One of the things I do is guide RVs here. If the dates work out I can help you if you want. Let me know, if your group wants to rethink the caravan I can help with that too. All in all since I am a local I think I can be of some service.

I have driven it many times & will continue to do so. You won't have any problems. There is some road construction in Penasco which was discussed in a thread a few days ago. You may want to review that as it gives current data on getting to Bonita.
