In the wake of the I-5 collapse, a little better news this a.m..... those of you who take the bridge (Highway 58) from Cape Carteret out to E.I. and other Bogue Banks towns will be glad to know the six-month $2.5 Million preservation job is now almost done except for stripes and a few punch list cleanup things.
The NC DOT announced yesterday that both lanes will be open on schedule for Mem Day onward. Expected to extend the life 25 to 30 years. Nice to live in a state that can get a project done on time.
The bridge was opened about 1971 if I remember right. Before that, there was a ferry over. When you cross, notice how low the concrete rails are...done on purpose so you get a sweeping view of the islands in the sound. (Probably not code today!)
